In an article, a reporter highlighted the massive popularity of top-tier K-pop girl groups TWICE and BLACKPINK despite THESE differences. Want to know the difference betwen the two major girl groups? Then keep on reading!

Recently, MediaUs reporter Yoon Kwang Eun wrote a culture critic column and highlighted the "Two models of K-pop girl group" featuring TWICE and BLACKPINK.

Yoon wrote:

"The two groups debuted around the same time and have led the K-pop girl group industry. Both have great popularity at home and abroad and have their history, and have pioneered paths in different directions."

Here Are 3 Differences Between TWICE, BLACKPINK:

1. TWICE's 'Color Pop' vs. BLACKPINK's 'Girl Crush'

In the article, the reporter described TWICE as an "industry standard," the blueprint of girl groups that debuted similarly to them in the mid to late 2010s.

In particular, the nine-member group introduced the "Color Pop," a group with a bright and lovely concept, with multinational/multi-member composition, an active comeback with a short break, and vast and high-quality content.

Whereas BLACKPINK debuted with a cool and sophisticated concept of "girl crush" and chose a line that puts a certain distance from consumers with a small composition of four members and a long gap between album activities.

Eventually, TWICE and BLACKPINK's concepts also evolved in time, but these are the concepts that they cemented in the K-pop scene since their debut.

2. TWICE's Japan Market vs. BLACKPINK's West Market

Beyond Korea, TWICE decided to expand its activities in Asia, particularly in Japan. Aside from their catchy songs, this became easier due to Japanese members Mina, Sana, and Momo.

Reporter Yoon quoted:

"According to the Oricon Chart, sales reached 150 billion won from 2017 to 2020 with just four years of local activities. As such, the Japanese market is the most profitable.

TWICE achieved unrivaled and stable sales because it has captured this market and has been running for a long time."

In contrast, BLACKPINK entered the West, Southeast Asia, and China. Southeast Asian countries have a large population and often communicate in English on SNS so that they can provide high YouTube playback and international connections. Thai member Lisa was the pioneer of the model.

"With her slim silhouette, stylish appearance, and outstanding performance skills, she has become an icon and a global celebrity in Southeast Asia. Lisa also gained huge fandom in China by appearing as a mentor on the Chinese audition show, 'Youth With You."

3. TWICE's Tour Market Sales vs. BLACKPINK's Album Sales

In terms of sales, Reporter Yoon said:

"TWICE gives great sales by securing the tour market, and BLACKPINK gives global advantages of the Initial Chodong record and broadband."

Overall, they clarified that the article's description is a schematic division. TWICE and BLACKPINK are also not divided into those two types. Above all, they are continuing to operate and moving forward and evolving.
