Mandarin is often hailed as the hardest language to learn. But, did you know these seven K-pop idols are able to speak the language? Keep on reading for all the details!
1. EXID Hani
During an episode of KBS2's "Happy Together," Hani revealed that she studied in China. The idol decided to go to China to study high school after she was let go from JYP Entertainment.
During her appearance on "Off to School," Hani showed off her skills in the language during a Mandarin class. She and co-cast member ex-AOA Jimin flaunted their fluency in the language.
2. Eric Nam
During an appearance on KBS2 TV's "Yoo Hee Yeol's Sketchbook," Eric Nam was asked how many languages he can speak.
Eric Nam stated that he studied Chinese but has lost fluency since he does not use the language often. Other languages Eric speaks include English, Korean, and Spanish.
3. Sandara Park (former 2NE1)
We all know Sandara Park is a multilingual queen, as she is fluent in Korean and Tagalog. But did you know she speaks Mandarin, as well?
The former 2NE1 speaks conversational Mandarin. She once treated fans to a cover of the old-school favorite Mandarin song "Ni Yao De Ai." Besides Mandarin, Sandara Park also speaks conversational Japanese.
4. EXO Sehun
Though Sehun did not debut in EXO-M, the maknae of EXO put immense effort into learning Mandarin. As a result, he speaks the language well enough to deliver a thank-you speech without difficulty!
The idol has worked in several Chinese productions, such as "Dear Archimedes" in 2019 and "Catman" in 2021.
5. Super Junior Choi Siwon
In April 2008, Siwon debuted in Super Junior-M, the Mandarin sub-unit of Super Junior. Following his debut in the unit, the idol has put immense effort into learning the language.
He is fluent enough to participate in several Chinese-language films, namely "Helios, To the Fore" and "Dragon Blade."
6. Jimin (AOA)
As mentioned previously, Jimin showed off her Chinese skills during her appearance on "Off to School."
She revealed she studied in China for two years in middle school on the show. Her mom originally told her she was only going to the country to travel but soon sent her clothes and stuff from Korea. She studied there despite being told she was sent there for a trip!
7. Girls' Generation Seohyun
Not only can Seohyun speak Korean, English, and Japanese, but she is also fluent in Mandarin! She is a true polyglot!
The idol has starred in several Chinese productions. The most notable are the Chinese web drama "Canvas the Emperor" and the 2016 Chinese-language film "So I Married An Anti-Fan."
