SM Entertainment Slammed for 'Mistreating' Red Velvet— Here's What Happened

ReVeluvs, Red Velvet fandom, expressed frustrations at SM Entertainment for alleged mistreatment of the girl group. The issue sparked when the boy group NCT Dream, an artist under the same agency, announced the news of the resumption of the concert that was canceled last month.

SM Announces NCT Dream's Rescheduled Tour Dates— Why Are ReVeluvs Upset?

On August 10, SM Entertainment announced the new dates of NCT Dream's second solo concert, "THE DREAM SHOW2-IN A DREAM," initially scheduled to be held from July 29 to 31.

The concert was canceled when the members and staff who worked hard to meet the expectations of the fans agreed that they could not show the best performance under the situation after Renjun and Mark tested positive for coronavirus.

However, fans unanimously asked to postpone the concert rather than cancel. On the 10th, SM Entertainment officially announced that it will resume at the Olympic Main Stadium in Jamsil Stadium.

But while NCTzens rejoiced, ReVeLuvs expressed their disappointments. According to them, SM Entertainment is being unfair and continues to mistreat Red Velvet by not updating about the group's indefinitely postponed concert.

In context, Red Velvet's solo concert, "2022 The ReVe Festival: Prologue," which was originally scheduled to be held on March 19-20 has been temporarily postponed. This was after the members excluding Seulgi and Wendy were confirmed to be infected with COVID-19 at that time.

Due to the sudden postponement of the concert, the agency refunded all tickets and MDs for the performance.

Supposedly, it was the first performance in about two years and three months of the five-member group since "Red Velvet 3rd Concert La Rouge" held in 2019.

Due to this, fans are disappointed that despite their excitement, there was no further notice about the Red Velvet's concert after the temporary postponement, sparking mistreatment allegations.

In fact, even when the "Psycho" singers celebrated its 8th anniversary on August 1, there was no special schedule on that day except for the celebration of Red Velvet members and fans.

Another thing is the lack of Red Velvet's promotion and comeback, although the team initially hinted at their release each season.

As a response, fans are currently conducting a general attack on Twitter with the hashtags #SM_여돌차별_공론화 #에스엠_레드벨벳_콘서트_돌려놔. Fans also accuse the agency of discrimination against Red Velvet, urging them to re-schedule the concert.

Some fans wrote:

  • "Bring back the Red Velvet concert."
  • "Isn't it discrimination against female idols?"
  • "Shouldn't we reopen the concert that has been postponed for five months first?"

ReVeluvs allege the agency of having different treatment towards its boy groups vs. girl groups.
