'New Jeans' Sales in 1st Week Become Highest Among K-pop Girl Group Debut Albums
On Aug. 8, NewJeans- a new five-piece girl group launched by Min Hee Jin's HYBE subsidiary label ADOR- dropped the physical version of their debut EP "New Jeans," which was initially released digitally on Aug. 1.
After attaining the highest first-day sales of any K-pop girl group debut album in Hanteo history, NewJeans once again broke another historic record.
In particular, "New Jeans" sales in the first week (Aug. 8 to 14) recorded a total of 311,271 copies- becoming the highest among K-pop girl group debut albums in history.

The previous record was set by HYBE's other new girl group LE SSERAFIM, whose mini-album "FEARLESS" sold 307,450 copies from May 2 to 8 this year.
Moreover, NewJeans now joins LE SSERAFIM as the only K-pop girl group to sell more than 300,000 copies in the first week with a debut album.
On top of that, the quintet is now the eighth top-selling K-pop girl group in the first week in Hanteo history. The only girl groups to have obtained higher first-week sales so far are aespa, BLACKPINK, ITZY, Red Velvet, IZ*ONE, IVE, and TWICE.
Finally, the "New Jeans" sales in the first week have landed the new girl group on the No. 89 spot on the overall list of highest first-week sales in Hanteo history (including sales of K-pop boy groups and soloists). It has surpassed EXO D.O.'s "Empathy" (which sold 310,108 copies).
Congratulations to NewJeans on their new historic milestone!
NewJeans' Other Recent Achievements
In addition to smashing the record for the highest first-week sales in Hanteo history, NewJeans has had other minor achievements recently.
In particular, NewJeans' "Attention" has now recorded its 57th real-time all-kill as of 9 a.m. KST on Aug. 15. A real-time all-kill is when the song reached No. 1 on major real-time Korean music charts such as Bugs, Genie, MelOn, and FLO.

"Attention" achieved its first real-time all-kill (RAK) on Aug. 12 at midnight KST, making NewJeans the first K-pop girl group in six years to achieve the feat with a debut song since BLACKPINK in 2016. This also makes them the very first fourth-generation K-pop group to score a RAK with a debut song.
Meanwhile, on Spotify, NewJeans' self-titled debut EP has now surpassed 30 million streams just after 13 days after its release. With this, it becomes the fastest 2022 debut album by a K-pop group to reach the milestone.
