TVXQ's "UTSUROI" has made a remarkable debut on both of Oricon's single song and single album charts, demonstrating the duo's immense popularity in Japan.
TVXQ's 'UTSUROI' Debuts High on Oricon Single Song & Album Charts
On Aug. 17, TVXQ officially dropped its new Japanese single album "UTSUROI," which features the title song of the same name and the B-side track "The Reflex."
The title track, "UTSUROI" was digitally pre-released on July 30, while its official music video came out on Aug. 14. In the MV, the two TVXQ members are seen singing in a set while the main storyline being shown throughout the video is two school kids with passion in filmmaking.

The "UTSUROI" MV begins with the two school kids drafting up storyboards and looking for ideas to take the perfect scenes, and then the MV ends with them filming TVXQ in the said set.
At the time TVXQ's "UTSUROI" was released online, the title track impressively debuted at No. 3 on the Oricon Daily Digital Single Song Chart (dated July 31) with 1,603 downloads.
It also managed to enter the Weeekly Digital Single Song Chart (dated July 25 to 31) at No. 37 with 1,637 downloads.

Finally, TVXQ's "UTSUROI" ranked second on the Oricon Daily Single Album Chart (dated Aug. 16) with 20,463 copies sold. This shows that the Japanese single album sold more than 20,000 copies in Japan in just one day.
"UTSUROI" not only received support from Japanese fans but from other countries as well. In fact, the single album debuted at No. 114 on the Worldwide iTunes Album Chart (dated Aug. 17).
Additionally, at the time the title song was dropped on July 30, it immediately entered the Worldwide iTunes Song Chart, securing the No. 145 spot. It then rose to No. 78 on the following day. TVXQ's "UTSUROI" went on to spend three consecutive days on the Worldwide iTunes Song Chart, with its last ranking being at No. 183.

TVXQ's Japanese Comeback Prior to Release of 'UTSUROI'
Ahead of the release of "UTSUROI," TVXQ made another Japanese comeback on March 16 with an extended play titled "Epitaph." The EP follows the members' solo releases, such as Changmin's "Human" and Yunho's "Kimi Wa Saki e Iku."
"Epitaph" consists of the title song "Epitaph - for the future" and five other songs. "Epitaph -for the future-" is a strong J-rock and dance pop-influenced song with a message to the haters. The music video for the title track features a concept of heaven and hell, referencing Changmin and Yunho's recent solo works.

Apart from "Epitaph -for the future-," the EP also includes the songs "Like Snow-White" and "MAHOROBA," two sensual dance songs, and "Storm Chaser," an inspiring ballad that showcases the duo's engaging vocal power.
The album also contains TVXQ's 2020 Japanese song "Small Talk" and "Light My Moon Like THIS," a mashup of the tracks "Light My Moon" by Changmin and "Shake it like THIS" by Yunho.
On March 27, the duo dropped a performance video for "Epitaph -for the future-" as a gift to the fans.
