S.E.S Bada Names the K-pop Groups She is Most Proud Of

Recently, first generation K-pop idol Bada, who debuted as a member of SM Entertainment's three-member girl group S.E.S back in 1997, made a guest appearance on the August 22 broadcast of KBS Cool FM's radio program Park Myung Soo's Radio Show.

In this broadcast, which is hosted by comedian and TV personality Park Myung Soo, Bada talked about the difference in terms of idol culture from the past and present.

In particular, Bada highlights that there is something different for each generation. With the rise and success in K-pop all over the world, younger idols are now able to perform outside of South Korea. She also notes that social media had played a big part in making K-pop successful as it is now.

"I think the things to be grateful for in each generation are different. Now, younger idols travel around the world to hold concerts. It is possible because of the internet, such as social media having become so developed," Bada said.

She adds that if the first generation idols had the same resources as the current K-pop idols now, things may have been different with their level of success.

Bada said, "If there was such a thing [social media] in our days, H.O.T or SECHSKIES could have become the current BTS."

She then names the currently active K-pop groups who she feels most proud of: BTS, BLACKPINK, aespa, and NewJeans!

Bada cites their success to the "power of fandoms," which has been passed down from each generation. "I think it is the power of fandoms. This is possible because of the power of fans who have been passed down from our generation," Bada said.

Bada Says NewJeans Has Similar Vibes as S.E.S

She especially mentions rising rookie group NewJeans, who recently made their official debut on August 1 under the guidance of ADOR's CEO Min Hee Jin, who is a former creative director of SM Entertainment.

Bada said, "People around me are talking about NewJeans a lot. They say that NewJeans' debut song 'Attention' gives off the same vibes as S.E.S. They are a group that I really like."

She also talks about NewJeans member Minji, saying, "In particular, NewJeans' Minji seems to look like a mix of [S.E.S] Eugene and I's face. Of course, it can be a pleasant illusion only in my head."

Bada concludes by saying, "Anyway, I think that they are a group that is musically prepared."

Meanwhile, Bada recently released her new single "Localized Heavy Rain" on August 11.
