Media Outlet Updates on LE SSERAFIM & Lim Young Woong's Case on KBS2's 'Music Bank'

A Korean media outlet has shared an update on the case of LE SSERAFIM and Lim Young Woong on KBS2's Music Bank" regarding the two artists' score. Keep on reading to know what happened after the police's investigation.

In mid-May, "Music Bank" was embroiled in controversy when the music show gave Lim Young Woong 0 points for his broadcast score on its May 13 episode. The candidates for first place at that time were LE SSERAFIM's "FEARLESS" and Lim Young Woong's "If We Ever Meet Again."

While the trot singer surpassed the girl group by far in terms of album sales and digital points, LE SSERAFIM eventually earned the trophy due to the big gap in their broadcast scores.

As the results angered fans of Lim Young Woong, KBS explained that "If We Ever Meet Again" received a broadcast score of 0 points because it was not played on any KBS TV programs, radio shows, or digital content during the tracking week of May 2 to 8.

However, Dispatch reported that Lim Young Woong's "If We Ever Meet Again" had, in fact, been played several times on KBS radio stations during the said tracking week. In response to this, KBS2's "Music Bank" said that the radio broadcast score is calculated using only seven KBS Cool FM radio shows.

As allegations of manipulation consistently grew, a civilian ultimately filed a complaint with South Korea's Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission accusing "Music Bank" of altering Lim Young Woong's broadcast score.

The Yeongdeungpo Police Station, which received the complaint, has since begun investigating the case.

On Aug. 24, Sports Kyunghyang shared an update on the situation. They reported that a "Music Bank" official has been formally charged on rigging the scores on the May 13 broadcast where LE SSERAFIM and Lim Young Woong were running for first place.

The media outlet added that the police have been conducting an internal investigation with a KBS official as a reference. They also stated that KBS submitted materials related to the scoring criteria for broadcasting scores of "Music Bank" to the police.

As of this writing, neither of the companies of LE SSERAFIM and Lim Young Woong have released an official statement to respond to the report of a 'Music Bank" official getting booked for manipulating the scores.

LE SSERAFIM's 'FEARLESS' Steadily Ranks on Various Music Charts

In other news, LE SSERAFIM's "FEARLESS" has remained popular even after several months since its release in May.

For the week ending on Aug. 27, "FEARLESS" rose to No. 152 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart, marking its 16th week on the tally. It has now tied with Kep1er's "WA DA DA" as the third longest-running fourth-generation K-pop song on Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart.

LE SSERAFIM's "FEARLESS" also made it to this week's Billboard South Korea Songs chart, climbing up to No. 9. It has also now spent 16 weeks on the tally.

In addition, the debut song ranked 10th on the Circle Global K-pop Daily Chart for Aug. 21. The group's B-side songs also entered the said daily chart. While "Sour Grapes" secured No. 114, "Blue Flame" took No. 116.
