Where Is Kim Chaewon Now? Idol's Status Following APRIL's Disbandment

Following the bullying controversy involving APRIL and its former member Lee Hyunjoo, the girl group eventually disbanded earlier this year. The members also went on to leave DSP Media. Among them, where could Kim Chaewon, who filed a lawsuit against Hyunjoo, be now? Read on to find out!

Kim Chaewon's Last Activity as an APRIL Member Prior to Group's Disbandment

Kim Chaewon debuted as a member of DSP Media's six-member girl group APRIL on Aug. 24, 2015. She was the main vocalist and one of the rappers in the band.

APRIL had a few changes in member lineup after leader Somin left in 2015, followed by Lee Hyunjoo in 2016. The new members added were Rachel and Chaekyung.

Six years after their debut, APRIL officially disbanded, with the final lineup being composed of Naeun, Chaewon, Yena, Chaekyung, Jinsol, and Rachel.

The girl group's last music release is their special single album "Hello Summer," which came out on July 29, 2020. The album features the title song "Now or Never" and the B-side track "Paradise."

This summer comeback was followed by the group's hiatus as the members focused on their solo activities for the meantime. But then, the whole band was embroiled in a bullying controversy with former member Lee Hyunjoo after a netizen claiming to be Hyunjoo's brother created a post on an online forum and alleged that Hyunjoo left the group not because she wanted to study acting but because of severe bullying of her co-members.

This resulted in APRIL facing heavy backlash, and the members being removed from endorsement deals and acting roles.

Apart from DSP Media, Kim Chaewon filed a lawsuit against Lee Hyunjoo for spreading false information about her (including the claim that there was bullying within the group, and that she dated a manager).

Why Did APRIL Disband?

On Jan. 28, DSP Media announced that the APRIL members and the company have come to the conclusion of disbanding the group after a long period of discussion and debate. This means the members have decided not to renew their exclusive contracts with the agency and go their separate ways.

On Feb. 14, DSP Media announced that their exclusive contract with Kim Chaewon has come to an end.
