VMAs 2022: SEVENTEEN Becomes First K-pop Artist to Win THIS Award in History

On Aug. 28 local time, the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) took place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, with Nicki Minaj, LL Cool J, and Jack Harlow as the ceremony's hosts.

The award show is still ongoing as of this writing, and a few winners have already been announced- including SEVENTEEN.

Back on July 26 local time, MTV released the nominations for this year's show, and several K-pop groups were included in the list. Among them, SEVENTEEN was nominated in three categories such as Best New Artist, Push Performance of the Year (with "Rock with you") and Best K-pop (with "HOT").

So far, SEVENTEEN has officially been announced as the winner of the Push Performance of the Year at the VMAs 2022. This comes after the group was named as the first-ever K-pop artist to be part of the global MTV PUSH program.

With this win, SEVENTEEN is now the first K-pop artist to ever obtain the Push Performance of the Year at the VMAs in history.

SEVENTEEN Vernon said, "It was a huge honor to be featured as the first K-pop artist for MTV Push and even greater one to receive the MTV Push Performance of the Year award. Thank you so much. We're on a touring stage right now, so we can't be there with you in person."

Two SEVENTEEN Members to Sit Out Upcoming U.S. Concerts- Here's Why

Like what Vernon mentioned, SEVENTEEN is on a tour at the moment, particularly their world tour called "BE THE SUN." The group is currently completing the North American leg of their tour, and recently wrapped up their concert in Chicago on Aug. 25 local time.

SEVENTEEN is scheduled to hold three more shows in the U.S. before heading to Canada. They are about to perform in Washington, D.C., Atlanta, and Belmont Park.

However, only 11 members will be able to participate in the upcoming concerts in Washington, D.C. on Aug. 28 and Atlanta on Aug. 30. The reason is that Hoshi and Joshua had tested positive for COVID-19 following their arrival in Washington, D.C.

According to PLEDIS Entertainment, Joshua and Hoshi are suffering from mild nasal congestion and a cough, while the other members are not displaying any symptoms at present.

Previously, both Mingyu and Dino were diagnosed with COVID-19 in the United States earlier this month, though they have resumed their activities with the rest of the group after sitting out two concerts in the country, particularly in Houston and Fort Worth.

Meanwhile, following their Belmont Park concert, SEVENTEEN will fly to Canada and perform at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. They will return to the U.S. for their concert at Prudential Center in Newark. Then, the group will hold shows in different countries in Southeast Asia, and finally in Japan.
