Ningning Reveals aespa Was Supposed to Make Another Comeback Later This Year

On July 8, aespa dropped their second mini-album "Girls," which eventually became the best-selling K-pop girl group album of all time. The EP sold a staggering total of 1,645,255 copies in July alone.

"Girls" also broke the record for highest first-week sales of any girl group on the Hanteo Chart after selling 1,126,068 copies from July 8 to 14.

At that time of their comeback, the girls kicked off the Good Morning America Summer Concert Series in New York. The quartet performed their hit songs "Black Mamba," "Next Level," "Life's Too Short," as well as their new releases "Illusion" and "Girls."

In August, aespa participated in SM Entertainment's "SMTOWN Live 2022: SMCU EXPRESS @ KWANGYA," which first took place in Tokyo, Japan then in Suwon, South Korea.

So far, SM has not announced a new activity for girls. But recently, Ningning shared to a fan that aespa was scheduled to make another comeback later this year.

On Sept. 1, aespa Ningning held an online fan call event via the Chinese platform Yizhiyu.

During the fan sign, one MY asked the "Girls" singer if she will return to the music scene this year. The idol responded that another aespa comeback was scheduled this year, but it was postponed to next year.

"There was a plan for this year, but the company's plan has changed and we won't see you until next year," Ninging said.

The "Next Level" singer also shared that she won't stay for a long time in China due to other schedules in Korea.

In a financial report published on Sept. 1, financial analyst Park Soo Young also mentioned aespa's comeback later this year. Park said that their return was postponed due to internal circumstances. The quartet was supposed to release a new album before the end of 2022. It is said that aespa would release their new album in the first half of 2023.

aespa's 'Girls' Enters Various Weekly Charts

In other news, aespa's "Girls" entered different weekly charts, including Billboard.

For the week ending on Sept. 3, "Girls" ranked No. 11 on Billboard World Albums chart in its seventh week on the tally.

Additionally, it was announced that aespa has spent 47 weeks on Billboard Global Excl. US chart this week. They are now the third girl group in the world with the most weeks on the chart, surpassing Little Mix. The quartet now follows BLACKPINK and TWICE on the list.

In South Korea, "Girls" took No. 19 on the Circle Digital Chart for the week of Aug. 21 to 27. Other songs of the group on the chart are "Illusion," "Next Level," "Savage," "Life's Too Short," and "Dreams Come True."

aespa's "Girls" also placed 19th on the Streaming Chart, and 29th on the Download Chart. Finally, aespa claimed No. 13 on the Social Chart.
