ITZY Achieves First Million Album Sales
ITZY's "CHECKMATE" album is now the 4th album by a K-pop girl group to be a million-seller on Circle Chart with 1,005,771 total album sales!
Korea Music Content Association (KMCA) has certified the girl group as a million-seller with their "CHECKMATE" album.
Their previous album "CRAZY IN LOVE" achieved 2x Platinum selling more than 500,000 album copies. After their debut album, the next two albums - "GUESS WHO" and "Not Shy" are both Platinum certified after selling more than 250,000
All their albums combined have sold more than 2.6 million copies. Only they and JYP Entertainment's boy group Stray Kids have achieved this feat.
MIDZYs Proud of ITZY's New Achievement
ITZY fans, MIDZYs, are proud of their idols since they are the first girl group from JYP Entertainment to reach this goal.
There was a bit of fandom argument between the fans of the two girl groups as ONCEs (TWICE's fans) claimed that it was TWICE who will be JYP Entertainment's first girl group to become a million sellers.
TWICE fans thought that it would be TWICE who will achieve this first as their latest album "BETWEEN 1&2" has sold more than 900,000 copies. But they were a bit short with less than 14,000 copies.
MIDZYs are now celebrating the achievement on Twitter while some fans are stating the small fight between some fans.
Other 'Million Seller' Girl Groups
The first girl group to sell a million copies of one album is BLACKPINK with their "THE ALBUM." The YG Entertainment girl group's first full album sold a total of 1,209,543 copies both in Korea and international album sales.
Circle Chart (formerly known as Gaon Chart) officially announced that aespa's second mini-album "Girls" had sold 1,645,255 copies in July alone.
The third girl group to do so is the super rookie group IVE. Their 3rd single album, "After LIKE" has sold 1,110,177 copies and ranked number one on August Circle Monthly Album Chart.
ITZY's Japanese Comeback With 2nd Single 'Blah Blah Blah'
JYP Entertainment's million-seller girl group will be coming back to Japan for their second Japanese single "Blah Blah Blah" to be released on October 5.
ITZY Japan's official Twitter has been releasing teaser photos and videos of the member each day to hype up the fans.
Also, ITZY recently held their solo concert "1st WORLD TOUR CHECKMATE" in Seoul where all the members performed a solo.
Meanwhile, Chaeryoung recently guested in MBC's variety show "Radio Star" where she mentioned that she expected herself to debut with a large group with a minimum of 8 members. She also shared a story of how JYP himself cast her and her sister former IZ*ONE member Chaeyeon to be in his company.
According to Chaeryeong, she initially wanted to go to SM Entertainment because she was a huge fan of the Girls' Generation.
However, that clearly did not happen. She went to JYP Entertainment and stayed until she debuted with ITZY, to which, according to her, she is very much satisfied and happy.
