MONBEBEs Defend MONSTA X Minhyuk After Being Called a 'Scammer'— Here's What Happened

MONSTA X fans, MONBEBEs, are coming to Minhyuk's defense after the idol was called a "scammer" by netizens.

MONSTA X Minhyuk Called a 'Scammer' for Not Communicating With Fans on UNIVERSE

It is quite common for K-pop idols to join fan community and messaging platforms, such as Weverse, Bubble, and UNIVERSE, among others, as a way to directly interact with fans. For MONSTA X, the boy group connects with their fans MONBEBEs on the app UNIVERSE.

However, MONSTA X member Minhyuk is recently drawing criticism after failing to communicate with MONBEBEs on the platform. According to fans, it has been a little over 200 days (nearly seven months) since Minhyuk sent them a message on UNIVERSE.

In addition, fans couldn't help but complain and express disappointment at the fact that they are paying subscription to interact with Minhyuk on the platform every month. UNIVERSE charges fans ₩7,900 KRW (around $5.72 USD) per month on the subscription for the platform's Private Message feature.

The disappointment is heightened as UNIVERSE does not allow any refund, making fans feel that they are constantly paying for nothing.

It has even come to a point where some netizens called out Minhyuk as a "scammer" for failing to send at least one message in the past year.

Some comments from netizens read:

"At this point, I think the Fair Trade Commission needs to step in... because this is a scam."

"Since February until September of this year, Minhyuk has not replied to my private messages for more than 200 days, or seven months. I want him to at least close the payment window."

"Is this for real? Isn't this something that can be reported to the Korea Consumer Agency? He must be crazy to be pulling this, especially when there is no refund system for the fans. It is basically the same thing as fans spending money to purchase a product but never receiving the product and being refused a refund. That is a scam."

Fans Defend Minhyuk for Lack of Communication on UNIVERSE

In light of the criticism and him being labeled as a "scammer," fans are stepping up to defend the MONSTA X member.

According to fans, Minhyuk does continuously interact with MONBEBEs. However, he does so not on UNIVERSE, but rather on other free platforms like his social media.

Fans also criticized the other fans for knowingly spending on a platform where they know Minhyuk is not active in, and that it isn't his fault that fans continuously subscribe on UNIVERSE.

Some comments defending Minhyuk read:

"UNIVERSE is a garbage app. I don't blame Minhyuk for not using it. And if you keep paying for the membership even after 200+ days of him not posting then, it's your fault."

"Minhyuk frequently interacts with fans and posts updates on fancafe no matter how busy he gets. He most likely doesn't like UNIVERSE. No one's forcing those fans to pay for the subscription anyway."

"Real fans know Minhyuk NEVER gets on UNIVERSE to talk and he uses other SNS to communicate. IDK why y'all continue to pay for something when you know he isn't active on there?"

Meanwhile, NCT Jaehyun and Red Velvet Joy also was also entangled in a similar situation in the past for their lack of communication of Bubble, another subscription-based fan communication platform used by SM Entertainment artists.
