Genie Music Awards 2022: Date, Venue, More Information Revealed
On Sept. 14, Genie Music announced its plan to hold the Genie Music Awards 2022 after a year of hiatus.
The Genie Music Awards (GMA) is the first award ceremony held by Genie Music in 2018, and it became a hot topic as the first collaboration award show that a music platform and a broadcasting company tried at the time, as it was co-hosted by MBC Plus. Then, in 2019, Genie music introduced a new digital music awards concept with Mnet's digital channel M2, and the event was called M2 X Genie Music Awards (MGMA).

In 2020, the winners of the award show were only revealed online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The following year, no ceremony took place.
This year, Genie Music will hold the Genie Music Awards 2022 exclusively at Incheon Namdong Gymnasium on Nov. 8. This is the first time in three years that it will take place in person.
GMA 2022 will come with the slogan, "Play Again, Play GMA," which contains the message that the awards ceremony, which was interrupted due to the pandemic, will be revived and present a stage that becomes one with music.

While Genie Music teamed up with MBC Plus and Mnet in the past events, it wasn't mentioned whether they will partner up with a different network this year.
Additionally, The Genie Music Awards 2022 is scheduled to reveal all its award categories and candidates, as well as the voting process, in early October.

While waiting for the categories and nominees for the Genie Music Awards 2022, let's look back on the winners at the latest award ceremony.
First of all, the Artist of the Year was given to trot singer Lim Young Woong. This award was taken home by BTS in 2018 and 2019.
The Song of the Year was awarded to Zico for his hit song "Any Song." This track surely deserves the award as it secured first place on all Korean real-time music charts, including Genie, achieving a real-time all-kill. It was even the song with the most Genie roof-hits in 2020. A roof-hit is when the number of people streaming and downloading the song has reached the maximum score on Genie.
Moreover, Zico's "Any Song" also earned Best Rap/Hip Hop Track at the GMA 2020.

The Album of the Year was given to BTS for their fourth full album "MAP OF THE SOUL: 7," marking their second consecutive year to win the award (They previously received the award in 2018 with "Love Yourself: Answer." BTS also won "Best Dance Track" with their English hit "Dynamite."
The Best R&B/Soul Track was bagged by Lee Hi with her digital single "Holo," while the Best Ballad Track went to MC the MAX's "Bloom."
The Best OST was taken home by actor Jo Jung Suk for his song "Aloha," the soundtrack for tvN's "Hospital Playlist," where he starred as one of the lead characters.
Finally, Best Trot was received by Lim Young Woong for his song "Trust in Me."
