Following the release of BLACKPINK's music video for "Shut Down," some suspect the music video concept was plagiarized from a Hong Kong girl group. Want to know the details? Keep on reading for all the details.
BLACKPINK Accused of Plagiarizing Hong Kong Girl Group for 'Shut Down' MV
On September 16, BLACKPINK released their second full album, "BORN PINK," and the music video for the title track "Shut Down." The music video quickly hit 50 million views within 24 hours of release. In addition, "Shut Down" received praise from internet users for showcasing BLACKPINK's maturity in music.

However, soon after the "Shut Down" music video was released, some scenes were suspected of being plagiarized. Specifically, some scenes were highly similar to Hong Kong girl group COLLAR's music video for "OFF/ON."
Some internet users shared screenshots of similar scenes in the two music videos on social media, which quickly garnered attention. One significant similarity is Jennie's scene in the bathtub, which was also seen in COLLAR's music video.

Both groups also have a move where they point to the group in their choreography.
Another similarity is the car driving scenes.
The final uncanny resemblance is how one member in each music video is seen wearing a fur hat.

Internet users refuse to believe this is a coincidence and say that if the "OFF/ON" music video came out before "Pink Venom," COLLAR would have faced criticism for copying BLACKPINK.
However, some internet users think many scenes in the "Shut Down" music video are references to their previous music videos, so there is nothing to do with COLLAR.
Previous Times BLACKPINK Was Accused of Plagiarism
This is not the first time a BLACKPINK's music video has been accused of plagiarism this year. In August, the virtual AI concept in BLACKPINK's "Ready For Love" music video was suspected of plagiarizing aespa's signature concept, causing a heated controversy.

BLACKPINK's pre-release single "Pink Venom," which was released on August 19, was also under scrutiny after it was noticed the song bore an uncanny resemblance to Rihanna's "Pon de Replay," 50 Cent's "P.I.M.P," and Notorious BIG's "Kick in the Door," both in melody and lyrics.
However, BLINKs have defended the girl group. They stressed that YG Entertainment announced that BLACKPINK's song would sample the popular songs. With that, the similarity is meant to pay homage, not plagiarize.
