BLACKPINK Becomes First Group & Female Artist to Score THIS on Billboard Global 200

On Sept. 26 local time, Billboard reported that BLACKPINK's "Shut Down" had debuted in first place on both the Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. charts this week.

The Global 200 ranks songs based on sales and streaming data from more than 200 territories across the globe, while the Global Excl. U.S. chart is based on data from territories excluding the United States.

This marks BLACKPINK's second time reaching the top of Billboard Global 200 after first achieving the feat earlier this month with their pre-release song "Pink Venom." With that, "Shut Down" becomes only the second K-pop song released in 2022 to top the list, following "Pink Venom."

Moreover, BLACKPINK now joins BTS, Olivia Rodrigo, and Justin Bieber as the only artists in the world to have topped the Global 200 more than once.

On the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart, "Shut Down" is the girl group's third song to hit No. 1, following "Lovesick Girls" and "Pink Venom." BLACKPINK is now the second artist with multiple No. 1s on the tally (three), taking over the spot from Justin Bieber (two) and now coming behind BTS (six).

According to Luminate (via Billboard), BLACKPINK's "Shut Down" racked up 152.8 million streams and 17,000 downloads during the tracking week of Sept. 16 to 22. Those numbers helped the quartet rank first on Global 200.

"Shut Down" also garnered 140 million streams and 13,000 downloads in territories excluding the United States, earning BLACKPINK the top spot.

In addition to topping the Global 200 with "Shut Down," BLACKPINK also secured No. 2 this week with "Pink Venom." The K-pop act is the first group and female artist in the world to simultaneously place at Nos. 1 and 2 in a single week on the Billboard Global 200; soloists Harry Styles (June 4 this year) and Drake (March 20, 2021) previously attained this milestone.

On Sept. 25, BLACKPINK made history after "BORN PINK" debuted at No. 1 on Billboard 200. This makes the quartet the first female K-pop act and just the fourth artist in the world to debut atop the Billboard 200, Global 200, and Global Excl. U.S. charts at the same time.

The first three acts to reach this achievement are BTS (with "BE" and "Life Goes On"), Taylor Swift [with "All Too Well (Taylor's Version) and "Red (Taylor's Version)"], and Justin Bieber [with "Peaches" (feat. Daniel Caesar & Giveon) and "Justice"].
