Covers in K-pop are not uncommon. However, it is rare for the cover to receive more hype than the original source material. Nevertheless, here are four K-pop covers that prove that it is possible!
1. TXT Soobin & Oh My Girl Arin - 'Dolphin'
When Soobin and Arin were named the MCs of "Music Bank," the two idols performed a cover of Oh My Girl's "Dolphin." The stage was to celebrate Arin, who is a member of the aforementioned group.

While Arin charmed with her gorgeous visuals, it was Soobin who went viral! His blue hair, paired with the blue and white outfits, was loved by the public. Additionally, his adorable executions of the chorus choreography became a viral fan cam on Twitter.
Their cover has over 32 million views. Meanwhile, Oh My Girl's music video for "Dolphin" has 31 million views.
2. aespa - 'Dreams Come True'
aespa released their cover of S.E.S's "Dreams Come True" in 2021. The song was altered slightly in terms of production and choreography. "Dreams Come True" was initially released as the lead single of "2021 Winter SM Town: SMCU Express" and was also included in their mini-album "Girls."

S.E.S released "Dreams Come True" in 1998 and was a huge hit. At the time of its release, "Dreams Come True" garnered several music show wins and is one of the most famous K-pop songs of all time.
aespa's music video for "Dreams Come True" has over 88 million views, while S.E.S's has 7.9 million views.
3. BLACKPINK - 'So Hot'
In 2017, BLACKPINK released a cover "So Hot" titled "So Hot (The Black Label Remix)." The song was first performed during BLACKPINK's concert in Osaka. They then performed the cover at the 2017 SBS Gayo Daejeon.

The Wonder Girls released the original version in 2008. Upon release, the single became an instant hit and shot up to number one on various offline and online charts. Wonder Girls won 11 music show trophies with "So Hot."
BLACKPINK's performance video of "So Hot" has 83 million views. Wonder Girls' music video has 25 million views.
4. BLACKPINK Lisa - 'Tomboy'
In February 2021, Lisa uploaded a video titled "LILI'S FILM [The Movie]" to her YouTube channel. The video featured a dance cover of Destiny Roger's "Tomboy." While she does not sing in the video, this is still counted as a cover, so it makes the list!

Destiny Rogers released "Tomboy" in February 2019. The song performed moderately upon release. However, following Lisa's cover, the song shot up on the charts and amassed millions of streams on Spotify.
Lisa's dance cover of "Tomboy" has over 105 million views. Destiny Rogers' music video for the song has 68 million views.
