The name of a K-pop group is closely linked to their identity. However, some groups end up changing their name. Keep on reading to learn why.
1. TFN
TFN originally debuted under the name T1419 under MLD Entertainment in 2021.

On October 17, 2022, MLD Entertainment announced the group would change their name to TFN following continuous requests from international fans. According to international fans, the group's name was too long and hard to remember.
MLD Entertainment decided on TFN, which means "Try For New."
2. SF9
SF9 debuted on October 5, 2016, under, FNC Entertainment.

During their pre-debut days, SF9 had the name NEOZ Dance. While competing in the survival show "d.o.b (Dance or Beat)," they continued to use the name. The group ultimately won the show. A month before their debut, they changed their name from NEOZ Dance to SF9.
3. Dreamcatcher
Dreamcatcher debuted on January 13, 2017, under Dreamcatcher Company (formerly Happyface Entertainment).

Dreamcatcher originally debuted under the name Minx in September 2014. The group was active until 2016. In November, Happyface Entertainment announced the group would re-debut with a new name, Dreamcatcher, two new members (Handong and Gahyeon), and a new nightmare concept.
4. TO1
TO1 originally debuted under the name TOO under WAKEONE Entertainment in 2020.

On March 28, 2021, the group announced that they would change their name to TO1 during KCON: TACT 3. TO1 stands for "TOgether as ONE," or to exist as one. The name contains the members' commitment to becoming one and soaring to the top of the music industry.
5. ALICE
ALICE originally debuted under the name ELRIS under Hunus Entertainment in 2017. They are currently under IOK Company.

On April 12, 2022, IOK Company announced the group would change their name from ELRIS to ALICE after four years and nine months as a group. Along with the group name change, Hyeseong and Bella changed their stage names to Yeonje and Do-A, respectively. Chaejeong was also named the group's leader.
6. HIGHLIGHT
HIGHLIGHT originally debuted as BEAST in 2009 under CUBE Entertainment. They are now under Around Us Entertainment.

After leaving CUBE Entertainment and establishing their label, BEAST was unable to continue promoting under the name legally. This is because CUBE owns the trademark to the name. In February 2017, they announced their new name, HIGHLIGHT.
