2022 MAMA Awards Reveals Ceremony Concept, Hosts, New Trophy Name, More

On Nov. 16, a press conference regarding the 2022 MAMA Awards was held. Chief Producer (CP) Yoon Shin Hye announced that this year's concept is "K-pop World Citizenship," which carries the idea that one's identity transcends geography or political borders.

Yoon Shin Hye said, "It captures the meaning that in the K-pop World, we love K-pop and that we are one community connected by music and that we should unite through music. We will work hard to deliver the positive influence music has."

The 2022 MAMA Awards will take place at Osak's Kyocera Dome in Japan over two days from Nov. 29 to 30. It was revealed that the Nov. 29 event will focus on the Worldwide Fans' Choice Top 10 category with the sub-title of "A World We Create." The following day, the awards for the artist categories and genre categories will be presented.

The two-day ceremony will also feature a wide range of K-pop stages, the meeting of K-culture, and a story under the sub-title of "We Are K-pop."

Later on, CP Yoon Shin Hye named the hosts of this year's show, and they are Jeon Somi and actor Park Bo Gum. Jeon Somi will serve as an MC on Day 1, while Park Bo Gum will be on Day 2.

Moreover, it was revealed the the new trophy this year will be called the "Hyper Cube," which has the same shape of a cube that MAMA Awards has shown over the past 21 years. The trophy will have lines at the bottom, which are shaped by different rays of light to symbolize that artists and fans are linked and evolving without end. The many sides of Hyper Cube illustrate dreams, passion, challenge, growth, uniqueness, and expansion.

2022 MAMA Awards: Collab Stages to Expect

During the press conference yesterday, several exciting solo and collab stages were revealed.

First, BTS J-Hope will perform his solo music for the first time on broadcast at the 2022 MAMA Awards. CP Yoon Shin Hye stated, "Being the first BTS member to drop a solo album. [J-Hope] received high praise in Korea and overseas as he delivered honest personal stories and growth."

She added, "BTS's MAMA performances have always been legendary, and we have heard that J-Hope is practicing hard to once again create a performance that goes down in MAMA history."

Other than that, multiple collab stages are being prepared for the 2022 MAMA Awards as well. On Nov. 30, (G)I-DLE will present a joint stage with rock band Jaurim, while Stray Kids' 3RACHA (Bang Chan, Han, and Changbin) will team up with Tiger JK and the "Squid Game" music producer Jung Jae Il.

Furthermore, All members (32) of the fourth-generation K-pop girl groups IVE, NMIXX, LE SSERAFIM, Kep1er, and NewJeans will take the stage together for a grand collaboration on Day 1.

Meanwhile, it was announced that DKZ has been added to the lineup of performing artists, as the group is the winner of Mnet Plus's "Road to MAMA Awards" (a series finale to "Road to MAX," which gives artists chances to perform on stage for Mnet's various shows such as M Countdown, KCON, and MAMA Awards).
