On December 12, Mnet revealed THESE 3 SHOCKING changes that will be applied to "Boys Planet," the spin-off of "Girls Planet 999," which is the same program that created "Monster Rookie" Kep1er!
Mnet's 'Boys Planet' To Air in February 2023 – Here Are Details You Need To Know
Will Mnet's "BOYS PLANET" bring about a new boy group's heyday?
According to Mnet, "Boys Planet," confirmed to be broadcast in early February 2023, will be the first idol-making project to be aired in Korea next year.
Mnet's "Boys Planet" is a global K-pop boy group-making project, the male counterpart of the survival audition show, "Girls Planet 999," which aired in August 2021. The program is the one that created one of the most talented and popular girl groups from the fourth-gen era, Kep1er.
After about a year, it was then announced that Mnet is planning the birth of a new boy group through the show, earning high interest in the global music industry as well as K-pop fans at home and abroad from the open recruitment stage.
3 Changes To Anticipate From Mnet's 'Boys Planet' 2023
Ahead of the broadcast, Mnet teased fans and viewers about the things that they should anticipate from the show.
First, the show heralded a new format change, signaling the start of an audition of 98 final participants who passed the preliminary round in 84 countries, including Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, and China, as well as the United States, Canada, Europe, and the Middle East.
According to the report, 229 agencies participated in the audition, including large agencies. This is unlike "Girls Planet 999," which only selected prospective participants from Korea, China and Japan.
Meanwhile, there will be a total of 98 applicants, which will be divided into 2 groups, K Group and G Group, which will enter a camp to proceed in the competition.
- K Group: 49 members consisting of Korean boys
- G Group: 49 members consisting of global boys
Secondly, this season aims to maximize the participation of viewers and change the composition of the program.
Compared to "Girls Planet 999," K-pop masters and experts, including viewers, evaluated the participants. But this time, ONLY VIEWERS will decide whether the participants will survive this season.
The "Boys Planet" masters will only play a role of being deeply involved in the growth of their potential, such as training to upgrading their skills.
Third and last, close solidarity between participants and fans can be expected, such as "growth," "connection," and "fostering," by significantly increasing viewers' participation in public broadcasting and voting in an environment where viewers were not able to see participants' performances in person due to COVID-19.
Meanwhile, on November 28, Mnet released a teaser video for "Boys Planet" for the first time in the world at the 2022 MAMA AWARDS
The released video showed two planets colliding. In last year's "Girls Planet 999," three planets, meaning three different cultures, were expressed in the logo, while the two planets in the "Boys Planet" teaser symbolized the global expansion of K-pop and the emerging global boy group G, which will sometimes clash, sometimes harmonize, and grow.
Mnet's "Boys Planet" production team said:
"Please pay attention to a total of 98 boys from K Group with new and reckless individuality based on their outstanding skills, as well as G Group with new and diverse charms that I've never seen. As soon as their potential becomes one with fans' support, the boy group's growth story will explode."
