Amid rising popularity, DKZ Jaechan was embroiled in a controversy after presumably "supporting" a YouTube channel posting malicious content about idols, including BTS, Jang Wonyoung and more.
What happened?
DKZ Jaechan Caught Subscribing To YouTuber Sojang
On December 17, DKZ Jaechan turned on a V LIVE broadcast to communicate with fans. But during his conversation with followers, there was a question about his YouTube channel subscription list, as it was revealed that he is subscribing to Taldeok Camp run by YouTuber Sojang.
K-pop fans then had their brows raised with this information as the YouTuber is notorious for generating damaging rumors about idols through his videos. Most of these are unfetched dating scandals, plastic surgery allegations and personality exposures.
Some of the idols that Sojang often targets are BTS, IVE Jang Wonyoung, aespa, ATEEZ, BLACKPINK, and ITZY.
For this reason, BTS V expressed that he would directly sue the channel for his co-idols ATEEZ's agency KQ Entertainment and IVE's agency Starship Entertainment also took respective legal actions.
Koreans were frustrated to know that the idol is "supporting" the YouTuber in the form of subscribing to them, knowing that Sojang made tons of money by defaming celebrities.
On top of this, the same account spread rumors about the suspension of DKZ Moon Ik, Jaechan's bandmate.
DKZ Jaechan Explains Incident But Still Suffers THIS Aftermath
In response, Jaechan immediately explained his side via Universe private message after the live broadcast, saying:
"I noticed that a lot of you kept on talking about the same question, so I will address it once and for all.
I don't know what channel it is, and I don't usually subscribe and like (videos) while watching YouTube, so I didn't know what was there.
Except for a few, I think it was just unbeknownst pressed and subscribed, but now I'm done organizing my subscription. I sincerely apologize for my careless behavior and will be more careful in the future."
Despite this, people continue to criticize him and Korean fans even expressed it is hard for them to believe what he said.
What added to the disappointment of fans was Sojang's sarcastic post about the incident, saying:
"I recommend you create at least two YouTube accounts... I hope you can watch the Taldeok camp as much as you want with a second account that no one knows."
As an aftermath, Jaechan lost the trust of many fans due to the controversy, his future moves are drawing attention.
Meanwhile, Jaechan debuted with DKZ in 2019, and has drawn huge attention due to the popularity of the web drama, "Semantic Error."
On the flip side, some were defending him, stating the possibility of Jaechan subscribing to YouTube to keep Sojang in check in case they spread another video about DKZ.
