In her latest "Showterview" episode, Super Junior Shindong revealed that host Sunmi once refused to give her phone number to him. In response, the female idol explained why she had to.
Super Junior Shindong, Sunmi Recall Closeness Prior To Debut
On December 22, Super Junior Leeteuk, Shindong and Donghae appeared as special guests on "Sunmi's Showterview," which aired on Mobidic's YouTube channel.
In the video, Sunmi surprised viewers by starting the show by recalling her close relationship with Super Junior.
"I'm really happy to meet my brothers (Super Junior). I vividly remember when I was a trainee, I saw your debut stage on TV. I feel emotional that I can interview you like this."
Shindong exclaimed that he also felt emotional, narrating how their friendship started.
"Then how emotional would I be? I first saw Sunmi when she was in the sixth grade of elementary school. We were at the same SM Entertainment.
I was in the same audition with her at the 'Youth Best Contest.' Sunmi almost joined me at SM, but she went to JYP (Entertainment)."
Sunmi Explains Why She Had To Unfortunately Refuse Giving Number to Shindong
While recalling their friendship, which started about 17 years ago, Shindong teased Sunmi about the time she didn't give her number to him.
The "Mango" singer said:
"Maybe some of the members remember. When Wonder Girls made their debut, Super Junior was also doing 'Rokoku' activity. That's why we artists were standing in front and back order on the 'Inkigayo' stage. I was so glad to see Sunmi. Out of excitement, I said,
'I'm so glad to see you, Sunmi Congratulations on your debut. Can you tell me your phone number?"
The two idols apparently lost contact with each other upon Sunmi's change of agency. But despite the excitement, Shindong noticed Sunmi's hesitation while looking at the other Wonder Girls' members like reading their faces.
Shindong understood and said:
"Ah, you can't tell me? No problem!"
The senior idol continued how the other Super Junior members would tease him a lot for it, leaving comments such as:
"I asked Sunmi for her number, but got rejected!"
Leeteuk added:
"It's because Shindong has always been friendly, but he suddenly went buddying with a new girl group. 'Ah, he must like her this much! But you can't do that to a rookie!'"
Sunmi, who was laughing about the incident, took her time to explain herself why she had to refuse despite their friendship.
"I was so sorry about that then. In my defense, it's because I just made my debut. I was just being very cautious."
Shindong then made the scene lighter by making a joke, saying:
"It's okay, I understand. It's just you really didn't want to."
On the other hand, Super Junior released their 11th full-length album, "The Road: Celebration."
