Although BLACKPINK Rosé's recent Instagram story looked harmless, she almost got herself into an "Ilbe" controversy after writing THIS.
BLACKPINK Rosé Celebrates Jisoo's Birthday Through IG Story
On January 3, Rosé shared her warm greetings to BLACKPINK co-member Jisoo, who celebrated her 28th birthday.
On this day, the "On the Ground" singer shared a photo with Jisoo.
In the photo, Rosé and Jisoo were cutely leaning next to each other in a concert backstage, flaunting their closeness.
Rosé also wrote the message:
"(To) our really cute eldest sister, Jisoonie (Jisoo unnie), I wish you a veeery very happy birthday. I wish you to have the happiest birthday in the world, I love you."
BLACKPINK Rosé Edited IG Story – What's Wrong?
Although the post seemed harmless at first, K-pop fans noticed that Rosé edited her Instagram story caption shortly after uploading it.
This was after the idol was almost caught in an unexpected "ilbe" controversy when she was just purely celebrating Jisoo's birthday.
In particular, Rosé was accused of using the "Ilbe" (hate speech) term on social media after writing "neomu neomu" (너무 너무), which means "very very" as "nomu nomu" (노무).
This term started in far-right websites and communities such as Ilgan Best, widely known as "Ilbe."
Among the disrespectful way or hate speech they used was "nomu nomu."
In context, the term was used to disparage the late former President Roo Mo Hyun who took his own life amid a corruption probe.
Luckily, Rosé was able to act fast and immediately edited her caption before it gets bigger. People also dismissed it as a typographical error, given that the female idol grew up in a foreign country; thus, the term's spelling might have confused her.

- "I think she really wrote it without knowing its meaning."
- "I think people around me would have been more surprised."
If Rosé hadn't corrected herself faster, she would have ended up like the girl group Crayon Pop, who was boycotted in the advertising and performance industries after using the expression "nomu nomu" on SNS in the past.
On the other hand, amid rumors of departure from YG Entertainment, BLACKPINK, the group to which Rosé hinted at their respective activities this 2023.
Jennie and Lisa will appear as mentors for Baby Monster, a rookie group set to be launched by YG this year.
Rosé then continues to work as a luxury brand ambassador for Tiffany. Co and Yves Saint Laurent, teasing new campaign materials.
Lastly, Jisoo is set to make a solo comeback soon. YG Entertainment said on the 2nd:
"While Jisoo has been on a busy world tour since last year, she has been working on music in her spare time after finishing her jacket photo shoot to keep her promise to fans. We will be back with good news soon."
