(G)I-DLE who appeared wearing low-rise and visible underwear fashion in a concert belatedly sparked debate for "too sexy" outfits.
Here's what people are saying.
(G)I-DLE Criticized For 'Too Suggestive' Low-Rise, Visible Underwear Outfits
On January 5, (G)I-DLE members' 'fits have been embroiled in controversy over their sensationalism.
In particular, the controversial outfits were worn by the quintet for (G)I-DLE's VR concert, "For NEVERLAND."
The concert was held for a total of 65 minutes, including the main film (60 minutes) and the making video (5 minutes), wherein it featured the stages of 10 representative songs, including (G)I-DLE's new album "NXDE," released in October last year.
The concert was organized by PICO, a global augmented reality (VR) company that aims to give the audience a 4-K resolution experience as if they were in front of a real stage.
Fans were enthusiastic about the group's performance, but they belatedly sparked a heated debate after the video of (G)I-DLE performing "My Bag" circulated online.
In the video, members Minnie, Soyeon, and Miyeon were in low-rise pants and skirts, exposing their underwear and pelvis. Low-rise style was popular in the late 90s, and it reemerged in South Korea, with plenty of K-pop idols reviving the trend.

In particular, the style started last year when luxury brands have shown it in their respective collections, featuring not only international celebrities but also local idols and actors.
With the return of Y2K fashion, it is easy to see styles of bold exposure through short tops and bottoms and wearing them as much as possible.
Unfortunately, some are not taking (G)I-DLE's take on this trend positively.
Koreans wrote on various online platforms.
- "Isn't this too suggestive?"
- "It's a trendy fashion these days, but they wore it too low."
- "That exposure doesn't look flattering."
- "They are too much."
Others even accused (G)I-DLE of sensationalism.
NEVERLANDs Defend (G)I-DLE Amid Controversy
When the issue was brought up, NEVERLANDs, (G)I-DLE's fans, defended the girl group. They highlighted that there was no problem with the costumes, rather people's mindset that caused the issue.
- "I think it would be okay to watch the stage video."
- "Will we censor the costumes of female idols again?"
- "It's just a fashion trend."
- "I don't know what's wrong."
- "It's a costume that fits the music."
- "It's pretty though."
Fans also implied that this is when malicious commenters should listen to (G)I-DLE's hit, "NXDE" and "TOMBOY," where the girl group declared their desire to show their "real selves" even if it means losing love from people than to pretend someone they are not.
Meanwhile, (G)I-DLE has left for Bangkok, Thailand, via Incheon International Airport on January 5 to attend the 37th Golden Disc Awards with TikTok on January 7.
