7 K-pop Idols Who Should Debut As Soloists, According to Music Critics
Genie Music's original audio content "K-Pop Expedition" selected seven most-anticipated soloists among idol group members who have yet to release solo songs, under the theme of "Now It's Time to Release a Solo."
In particular, the "K-pop Expedition Team" is comprised of esteemed K-pop music critics Kim Yoonha and Kim Youngdae, along with Freelance Editor Seo Haein, who has been K-pop stan since the first generation.
During the audio broadcast, K-pop expedition agent Seo Haein selected BLACKPINK Jisoo as one of the most-anticipated soloists.
"I thought it would be nice for Jisoo to sing a full solo song with her voice when she sang 'I can stop the tears if I want to' in the song 'The Happiest Girl' featuring her world legend falsetto."
In line with this, YG Entertainment confirmed that Jisoo will finally release her solo album in 2023.
Amid the "BORN PINK" world tour, the agency stated on January 1 that the female star already finished her album jacket's photo shoot. As for the music production, the idol is working on it in her free time in between schedules.
Fans' expectations are growing for Jisoo, the last member of BLACKPINK to release a solo album.
Following Jisoo, agent Kim Yoonha then picked Day6 Sungjin as one of the stars whose solo should not wait any longer.
"Sungjin is the only member of DAY6 who has not released a solo album. When I listen to DAY6's song 'Afraid', I am impressed with Sungjin's voice, which makes me feel like walking in the cold winter's sand."
"Sungjin once sang this song as a solo, and a demo version sung by Sungjin was also uploaded on the official website of JYP agency due to enthusiastic requests from fans, but the official version has not been released. It's hard to wait any longer for a solo song that showcases Sungjin's voice."
Following Sungjin, (G)-IDLE Minnie was also mentioned, who was widely recognized for her vocals, dance skills and stage presence even more following "TOMBOY" and "Nxde" releases.
TWICE Jihyo was selected by the music critics as well.
Following Nayeon, the group's leader Jihyo is one of the much-anticipated members to go solo, acknowledging her powerful vocals.
Among the seven K-pop idols selected, fourth-gen idols were chosen including ITZY Ryujin, STAYC Sieun and Jay as idol group members whom they have been looking forward to having solo activities as possible.
