In 2023, the determination to find a new idol group that will capture the global K-pop market is already being set! In line with this, here are 5 survival shows that you should look forward to this year!
5 Kpop Survival Shows To Air in 2023
Mnet's 'Boys Planet'
"Boys Planet" will premiere on February 2!
Launched by Mnet, the survival show is the boy group spin-off of "Girls Planet 999," which created Kep1er.
Unlike the first season which only allowed Korean, Chinese and Japanese trainees, "Boys Planet" expanded the number of countries that could participate and divided the 99, hereinafter 95 idol aspirants into Korean trainee, "K group" and global trainee, "G group."
Among the popular trainees were already established K-pop idols including Pentagon Hui, UP10TION Xiao, Hwan Hee and CIIPHER Keita., who will challenge the show for a second chance to re-debut.
"Boys Planet" introduced a "star master" system in which the host varies for each mission. The first star master will be former WANNA ONE and NU'EST Hwang Minhyun.
Vocalists Lee Seok Hoon, EXID Solji, Lim Han Byul, rapper pH-1, Dancer Lip J, Mihawk Back, and Choi Young Joon also joined the masters to play the role of mentors.
JTBC's 'Peak Time'
To be led by singer-actor Lee Seung Gi, the idol audition program will air on Feb. 15!
It will be different from other audition programs because idols who have already debuted are eligible to appear. But these idols are expected to put down their existing names and images to compete with skills alone.
Ahead of its airing, the silhouette teaser of the 23 teams was released, and they were named from 01:00 to 23:00, just like a clock, instead of revealing their group name.
This is showing attention as groups who were "underrated," are suspended from activities due to financial difficulties and more will be given time to have their own spotlight.
The judges will feature Super Junior Kyuhyun, SNSD Tiffany Young, Jay Park, Kim Sung Kyu, Lee Gi Kwang, Shim Jaewon, and Ryan Jhun.
MBC's 'Fantasy Boys'
MBC's "Fantasy Boys," the boy group version of "My Teenage Girls" who gave birth to CLASS:y is about to return after a year!
On February 1, PD Han Dong Cheol already left for Thailand to meet candidates who passed the audition before the broadcast.
The production team of the show reportedly visited Japan and Thailand twice and completed the local audition in strict secrecy.
More details are yet to be revealed, but more than 1,000 trainees from Japan, China, Thailand and the United States as well as Korea are known to have applied for the program.
TVXQ Choi Changmin will be the MC of the show, while (G)I-DLE Jeon So-yeon who appeared as a mentor in the first season raised questions about her appearance after recently releasing a monitoring video of the participants.
SBS's 'Universe Ticket: Miracle of 82'
In the second half of 2022, girl group audition programs will also prevail! According to initial reports, SBS announced its plan to join hands with F&F Entertainment to introduce a girl group selection program called, "Universe Ticket."
Led by producer Lee Hwan Jin, the program which production has already begun depicts the journey of 82 trainees being born into an eight-member group after 82 days of missions. The selected group plans to expand its activities by working in both real and virtual spaces.
Mnet's 'I-Land 2'
Following the success of ENHYPEN, their sister group is already set to be introduced through Mnet's "I-Land Season 2" in 2023!
The girl group survival show, created by HYBE's Belift Lab, is also scheduled to premiere this year after being postponed last year. This is to make the show more organized.
