On February 7, former IZ*ONE and HKT48 Nako Yabuki hinted at her retirement as an idol after graduation in April.

In an interview with a Japanese media, released on the same day, Nako opened up about the end of her idol activities on April 1 following her graduation concert for HKT48.

She narrated:

"I had a lot of things to do, such as going to Korea, so I thought about when to graduate. [...] As soon as I entered HKT48, I decided to graduate at the age of 20. This is because all 48 sister groups gather to hold an adult ceremony for the age of 20 before COVID-19."

However, this was delayed since she appeared on Mnet's "Produce 48" in Korea and was able to re-debut as a K-pop idol through IZ*ONE. She then moved to Korea and participated in various activities for the group even in Japan.

Following disbandment, she returned to Japan and continued her career as a Japanese idol. Yabuki Nako added:

"I've come to think that I want to graduate from HKT48, leaving something behind. I wanted good timing for me, a timing that would convince my fans, and the members."

Regarding her future career that seem to drift away from being an idol, the 01-born star assured her fans that she has no regrets about ending her idol life in her early 20s.

"I have no regrets as an idol. I think I achieved all my goals as an idol. Like performing as the center, or selecting in the general election. I also joined AKB48. It's an idol life that I was faithful to in many ways."

Nako Announces Start of Career as Actress

After retiring as an idol, Nako has confirmed that she chose to remain in the entertainment industry as an actress.

"I don't know if I say that the image of an idol still remains. I'm still an idol. [...] I think I should try a lot because my idol image can interfere with my actress activities."

She initially announced this in October 2022, saying:

"I was able to find a new dream while working as an idol for nine years. I will try my best to establish my name as an actress."

Earlier in January, Nako also resigned from Vernalossom after terminating her exclusive contract.

Along with this news, some predict that she will sign with HYBE following her co-member Sakura Miyawaki, who re-debuted in LE SSERAFIM.

However, as she expressed her strong will to promote herself as an actress, rumors continue that she will most likely connect with other entertainment agencies specializing in acting, not HYBE.

Fans are also interested in whether Yabuki Nako will choose to go to Korea, not Japan.
