In online communities particularly on Weibo, BLINKs were exasperated after Rosé's photo was ILLEGALLY used in a Chinese drama, portraying a sex worker.
BLACKPINK Rosé Made Cameo in Chinese Drama? Idol's Photo Used To Portray Sex Worker
Earlier, K-pop enthusiasts especially Chinese BLINKs (fandom) were quick to call out the production team of the Chinese drama, "Justice in the Dark" after using Rosé's photo without permission.
In particular, Rosé became a hot topic especially on Weibo after the female idol unexpectedly made a cameo in a Chinese drama through one of her photos. Often, this would be an "easter egg" leading viewers and fans to happily check out the drama, but this time, it didn't go well.
In context, the recent episode of C-Drama featured the characters looking over a digital catalog of supposedly sex workers. The scene also showed two men discussing hiring sex workers and went on by criticizing the photos, saying:
"These are heavily photoshopped that even their own mothers won't be able to tell it is them."
Among the photos, K-pop fans recognized a familiar face, and keen-eyed viewers confirmed that it was Rosé, who was depicted as a sex worker in the drama using her photo.
Although the photo was already post-processed, fans can tell that it resembles the original photo poster by the idol herself on her Instagram years ago.
Naturally, fans and netters started calling out the drama's production team for using the photos illegally and potentially damaging Rosé's image. When this topic went viral on SNS, the drama team tried to run away from the criticism by simply deleting the scene without a proper apology or statement.
C-Drama's Production Team Apologizes To BLACKPINK Rosé
On February 21 then, the production team eventually apologized after Rosé's face was used without permission.
Here's the 'Justice in the Dark' Full Statement:
"We’re the art and design team for the drama Justice in the Dark.
Our team's negligence at work led to the careless use of Miss Park Chaeyoung's (Rosé's) picture while creating an image to go into the drama. This adversely affected Miss Park Chaeyoung's (Rosé's) image and honor.
We politely apologize to Rosé, her fans, production companies, broadcasting platforms, and viewers. After what happened, the production company and the broadcasting platform immediately deleted Rosé's photos.
We thank fans for pointing this out. We will work harder in the future to prevent such incidents from occurring. We are actively reaching out to Miss Park Chaeyoung's agency to sincerely apologize to her.
Lastly, we apologize to Rosé, the fans, the production team, and the broadcasting platform."
Meanwhile, BLACKPINK, which Rosé belongs to, is about to have its contract expire as it enters its 7th year of debut with YG Entertainment this 2023.
The maximum contract period for entertainers set by the Fair Trade Commission is seven years. Among idol fans, this is sometimes called "the 7th-year curse." In fact, the girl groups MOMOLAND and Brave Girls were dismantled by the end of their exclusive contract at the same time as they celebrate their 7th anniversary this year, BLACKPINK earning attention if they will be able to overcome this dilemma.
