On March 5, a TikTok video went viral after an overseas K-pop fan revealed a trophy her mother bought from a Korean thrift shop in the Philippines. The unsuspecting fan then belatedly found out that this was actually supposed to be B.A.P's first-ever MAMA award!

In context, she narrated that her Filipino mother bought this in a secondhand shop that sells Korean items in the Philippines as a gift. The mother shared that she only paid 400 pesos for it (about $4). At the time, the daughter wasn't a K-pop fan yet so she doesn't know, but after joining the community, she was shocked to know that it was something that used to be B.A.P.'s prized possession.

Seeing the trophy, it was given to the group in 2012 during the Mnet Asian Music Awards. In that year, they received the Mnet PD's Choice, and it was truly a huge achievement for a group who just debuted in the same year. The rookie also snagged their first-ever award from the prestigious awards ceremony, which was previously won by iconic K-pop teams such as S.E.S, TVXQ and F.T. Island.

Although it's still a mystery how the trophy ended up in a thrift shop, the Filipino fan who already set the TikTok privately assured netizens especially Babys (fandom) that the trophy is being taken care of under their possession, especially since they now know its history.

BAP Fans Are Furious To Team's Ex-Agency, Look Back How It 'Messed Up' Their Career

Fans who saw this are angry that the B.A.P. agency closed its business and even disposed of the trophy at a cheap price. The group's supporters were furious that instead of giving it back to the group, the trophy was discarded and mysteriously shipped to a secondhand shop.

As a context, B.A.P debuted in 2012 under TS Entertainment. Despite being launched in a small to mid-sized company, the team rose as one of the most popular third-gen teams on par with EXO. Unfortunately, two years after debuting, the team decided to sue the company for unfair working conditions and failing to receive proper profit.

Although the group, fortunately, received the compensation that they deserve, their return to the music scene didn't receive as much impact as they had when they were introduced, due to the influx of new K-pop groups.

The agency also faced numerous lawsuits after B.A.P, ultimately closing in 2021.

Fans and netizens responded by saying:

  • "Please return it to the members."
  • "How can you throw away the award as junk."
  • "It was so unfortunate that BAP was so popular before but the agency did them dirty."
  • "The agency is shocking."
