Playstation 4 Release Date Rumors: PS4 Tops Xbox One In Pre-Order Sales, Is Sony’s New Console Better Than Microsoft’s?

Playstation 4 has run out of preorder "Launch Edition" units on Amazon while the online commerce site is still offering plenty of preorders on the Xbox One that will arrive on launch day, according to CNET.

Amazon has now resorted to selling the "Standard Edition," which won't be available until December 31. When clicking on the "Launch Edition" option on Amazon's page, the company indicates that it's unsure "when or if this item will be back in stock," CNET also reports.

Sony's $399 console, which is expected to be released by Thanksgiving, is available for preorder at GameStop.

"The gaming landscape is changing with new business models and new ways to play," said Andrew House, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment at a press conference on Monday where he announced the new console.

The highlight of attention for Sony's Playstation 4 release is its $399 price tag, which is $100 less than the competing Xbox One, and its ability to bypass requirements for online connection, authentification and game sharing - attributes that Xbox One will require.

Microsoft has been criticized for its vague statements about whether it will allow buyers of its Xbox One to play secondhand software, as well as its requirement that the new console be connected to the Internet at least once every 24 hours, the New York Daily News reports.

Monday's press conference prompted many people to begin preordering Playstation 4 consoles without waiting for Xbox One's release, signaling an uphill battle that Microsoft faces against the tech giant.
