Among the broadcasts that made the idol popular among K-pop enthusiasts was Mnet's "Produce 101," which left a huge impression on the entertainment scene. Unfortunately, this wasn't due to a positive reason, but due to a humiliating one.

In particular, during battle rounds, her group was tasked to perform their rendition of SNSD's "Into the New World" where she became the main vocalist. However, she was severely bashed when she ended up singing out of tune and the part where her voice cracked by replayed by Mnet five times.

Chanmi narrated:

"Since the process during our practice was filmed, I waited for the actual show, hoping that (my) situation would be revealed. But, I was surprised when I saw the broadcast. On the screen, I won the main vocal because I insisted and insisted, I was portrayed as a greedy person who ended up singing out of tune. The off-pitched scene was replayed five times and the broadcast ended as it was. At that moment, it became a silence for all of my family members and a sea of tears."

In her defense, Chanmi opened up that she initially informed the program about her sore throat and vocal cord nodules. However, she still ended up singing as the main vocalist.

"I have a bad sore throat. I woke up the next day, but my voice didn't come out. I was diagnosed with vocal cord nodules. I received the position of main vocalist, but I continued to reveal in interviews that I had vocal cord nodules. I also asked for understanding but still went on stage without changing my part. I ended up singing out of tune. Of course, it's my mistake."

Following the "evil-editing" the female idol suffered, she rose into the real-time search for five weeks, and the top keyword was "Chanmi attitude." She also suffered from malicious comments, calling out her skills, personality and appearance.

As a result, Chanmi developed a social phobia and she was really scared to meet people. It got to the extent where she didn't leave their house and lived in her room with a blackout curtain for about a year.

She continued:

"I lived in the room with a blackout curtain for about a year. I didn't eat and didn't leave the room, so my mom checked on me every 30 minutes. She checked every 30 to 40 minutes just in case I had negative thoughts."

Thankfully, a lot of people sympathized with the K-pop idol and that's how she was able to overcome it.

"I was having such a hard time, but as the program began to appear in the news, many people recognized that it was the 'devil's editing,' so they gave me a lot of support and encouragement. I think I overcame it well thanks to them."
