6 K-pop Songs That Aged Poorly: BTS' 'War of Hormone,' f(x)'s 'Milk,' More

K-pop songs usually stick due to factors such as melody and other characteristics that make it memorable. It's safe to say that K-pop has gone a long way from its birth in the 90s, and currently, a new generation is on the rise.

This phenomenon can also mean that trends can also change, together with the norms and cultures in society. While there are indeed K-pop bops that were considered as best releases on its respective times, netizens online claimed that some songs didn't quite age well.

This is due to numerous factors; may it be because of the song's odd nature or problematic meaning. It also proves that while K-pop songs can evolve, so will people with their preferences and outlook in today's present time.

Here are 6 K-pop songs that aged poorly according to the K-pop community

1. "War of Hormone" by BTS

If "War of Hormone" was released in today's fourth-generation K-pop, it would draw massive flak to the group responsible for singing it. This song was released on October 21, 2014, when BTS helmed the hip hop trend with their old-school classics.

As time progressed, the K-pop community's stance on the song gradually changed. This is because controversy erupted due to its lyrics that expressed misogynistic context. It even led BIGHIT MUSIC (formerly Big Hit Entertainment) to release a public apology.

2. "MILK" by f(x)

Netizens also included "MILK" from f(x). While "MILK" isn't entirely bad when it aged, netizens claim that the song would alienate today's listeners with its abrupt animal sounds and noises. Some even pointed out the randomness of the song's subject, which is, well, milk.

3. "Female President" by Girl's Day

While there were no qualms about the song's production or quality, fans still included "Female President" from Girl's Day in 2013 and it's not for the reasons you think.

On February 25, 2013, Park Geun Hye started her term as the 11th president and the first-ever female president of South Korea. Four years later in 2017, her term came to an end, as she was impeached and convicted for corruption charges.

4. "Zoo" by Red Velvet

Red Velvet's "Zoo" was also mentioned because of its animal noises that would make you feel you're in a jungle. However, most didn't mind it and it's still a tropical bop to most K-pop fans!

5. "You Got Gun?" by H.O.T

H.O.T's "You Got Gun" can totally whip up controversy if it was released in today's K-pop due to its racial slurs. This is definitely something that can be slammed, given how much society has improved when differentiating what's appropriate and what's not.

6. "Yayaya" by T-ARA

Cultural appropriation is still one of the most discussed topics in K-pop. If a music video from a song such as T-ARA's "Yayaya" was to be released in fourth-gen, the levels of backlash are going to be beyond incomprehensible.
