Chungha Reveals Reason She Joined Jay Park's MORE VISION: 'I felt like I had no identity'

In an interview, former I.O.I-turned-soloist Chungha revealed why she chose MORE VISION as her new nest, following contract expiration with long-time agency, MNH Entertainment.

Chungha Reveals Reason for Joining Jay Park's MORE VISION

On October 29, soloist Chungha had an honest conversation with dancer Gabee, who's a close friend to the idol. She appeared in the YouTube content, "GABEE Girl 2," to support the last episode of her friend's entertainment show. This also marked her first broadcast after her hiatus in more than a year.

In particular, after leaving her long-time agency MNH Entertainment, Chungha confessed that she initially planned to go back to her studies and pursue her schooling abroad. Indeed, she took her Korean history proficiency test and obtained a first-degree certificate.

However, Chungha expressed her desire to continue her career as an idol and joined MORE VISION in October, one of Jay Park's labels which is also home to singer and rapper Jessi.

Regarding why she chose the new label, Chungha explained:

"It's not like I have a big reason, but (MORE VISION) approached me the most aggressively. I wanted a company where even when I didn't have any thoughts, I needed them to give me some realistic advice like, 'Chungha, you have to do it. Timing is important.' I wanted a pacemaker.

Since it's been 8 years, people have started saying bitter things and it's a time when I was very scared of it. I needed a person who's someone like that and they contacted me the most."

At the time, MORE VISION was just a new label and although it's a bit stable, there was no clear result from the company yet. Despite this, Chungha explained why she still opted for Jay Park's company, adding:

"Even if you don't have to be a celebrity, it's just a job, not my life, so I can find another life. You can change your job.

There are these thoughts, but Jay Park visited me a lot, so I did it."

As the interview continued, Chungha also unveiled her current relationship with the CEO and pointed out:

"I get along with my team members without boundaries, but there should always be a line between the higher-ups like team leaders and seniors.

I call him, 'Jaybum oppa,' But honestly, I find it more comfortable calling him, 'CEO Jaybum.' However, he asked me not to call him CEO so I'm calling him 'oppa' right now. I guess he wants me to do it a little more relaxed."

Chungha Reveals Worries, Experience in Company

From 2016 to April 2023, Chungha has been with MNH Entertainment, her former company. However, she hinted that she never overcame her shy personality during her stay on the label.

"To be honest, I couldn't adapt well at my previous company. I left while still not adapting. It all came out awkward. But I also think that it's okay not to adjust. If you're too acclimated or too close, it can lead to even more friction. I believe that there should be some level of discomfort to begin with, usually."

On the other hand, Chungha also hinted at her concern about having no identity despite being in the music industry for eight years.

"I did more music than I thought. I tried so many genres. As a result, I felt like I had no identity. When I think of Chungha, I can't think of any trademark that reminds of me it aside from 'Gotta Go.' That's my concern."
