After Jeon Somi's recent video, some of the K-pop idol's biggest fansites started closing respective accounts dedicated to her.
What led them to that decision?
On December 26, an X user posted about Jeon Somi's fansites shutting down.
Some of them were the idol's biggest Instagram fansites with thousands of followers, including @/somistyles (19.2k followers) and @/staysomi (65.3k followers).
Upon posting, the post went viral with over 3.8 million views, as of writing. With about 1.8 quote retweets, K-pop fans including Sommungchis (Somi's fandom) shared mixed reactions about it.
Reason Jeon Somi Fansites Closed Down
When the post rose as a trending topic on X, K-pop fans showed confusion about what was happening, leading even the idol's biggest supporters to stop promoting her.
Apparently, the cause started when Somi posted her latest video on TikTok, which has now over 6M views and 1M likes.
While the video is basically just a GRWM (Get Ready With Me) showing how she does her makeup, the problem arose when she showed herself using a green Starbucks cup and even made it her video's thumbnail.

Seeing this, numerous fans were genuinely disappointed with her, as there was an ongoing boycott of the brand and product, yet she appeared not to care about them.
As a brief context, the aforementioned brand is accused of funding Israel to attack Palestine and logically, buying products from the brand means "supporting" the genocide.
Sommungchis don't believe that the idol isn't aware of the situation, since she's one of the idols who are "chronically online."
They also speculated that the star is being paid for promoting the coffee house since she blatantly showed its logo and flaunted it on her video when she didn't even take a sip for real.
Jeon Somi's Fans Divided About Idol's Clip
While numerous supporters of the idol started to express their frustration to her and pointed out how problematic the situation was, there were still Sommungchis who defended Jeon Somi from malicious comments and content.
There are voices saying that the idol might not be aware of it, and the idol might only really like drinking coffee from the brand and buying it without any ill intention.
Also, fans are reminding other netters to be still respectful when addressing the issue with Somi, as there are many ways how to educate her about the current situation without calling her names or insulting the idol.
As of now, not only Somi is being called out by K-pop fandoms but multiple idols who were seen posting Starbucks products, as well as idols who were seen promoting McDonald's (another company that is said to be funding the genocide), like NCT Doyoung.
