In an interview, Jennie revealed the reason she decided not to pursue a solo career under YG Entertainment and launch her own company instead.
On January 2, the third-gen "It Girl" Jennie finally met the OG "It Girl" Lee Hyori!
On the first episode of KBS 2TV's "The Seasons - Lee Hyori's Red Carpet," the two K-pop icons dished out their careers as idols and various topics.
In particular, Jennie revealed various things regarding the establishment of her one-man company ODD ATELIER and the reason she didn't sign an individual contract with YG Entertainment.
BLACKPINK Jennie Seeks Freedom Under One-Man Company ODD ATELIER
On this day, the idol introduced her newly established personal company called ODD ATELIER. As to why she created this, Jennie explained:
"Although I have the desire to do group activities with the company I've been working for seven years, I also wanted to be able to do individual activities more freely and comfortably, so I carefully set up a label called ODD ATELIER (OA)."
She then conveyed the message behind her company's name, adding:
"I came here with the crew that I've been with for a long time. I wanted to do all my activities freely. The name was made to mean that I would do well, even if the path I took was strange or different from others. It's my first time to reveal it while holding a microphone. I'm happy to be able to do it in front of my unnie (Lee Hyori)."
Jennie Reveals Why She Didn't Sign Solo Contract With YG
In exchange for establishing her own label, Jennie didn't sign an individual contract with YG Entertainment, which means she will only be working under the company for BLACKPINK's promotions.
Although it was also a bit unfortunate for the "SOLO" singer, Jennie conveyed what pushed her to do it, saying:
"I learned a lot (from YG), and I was able to do it there because it was a company where I started as a trainee from the beginning.
But in the last few years, I started asking myself, 'What can you do alone in the future?' With a spirit of challenge, I thought, 'Let's face it with courage.'"
As the conversation went on, Lee Hyori then asked Jennie if she was also planning to sign in other idols under her company, but the star expressed her desire to focus on artist Jennie in the meantime.
"I've never dreamed of it, but it was fun to imagine that while setting up a company. However, I'll take good care of the artist Jenny first and think about it when I get a good opportunity."
As a response, Hyori jokingly said:
"My contract with Antenna ends at the end of February, so please contact me. Please raise me."
Jennie then shyly answered:
"Please call me."
