THE BOYZ Eric Reveals He Was Almost Arrested in Japan
Recently, in various online communities, a video titled "The performance master THE BOYZ! K-wild idols go shirtless on air," which was posted on the YouTube channel Diggle in August 2023, has been going viral.
In the video, THE BOYZ members Younghoon, Eric, and Sunoo appeared on the show "Neighborhood Star K3," hosted by popular entertainer Jonathan. There, Eric recalled the time he was almost arrested in Japan.
He recounted that in January 2023, Eric and fellow THE BOYZ member Juyeon were in Japan. The two entered a convenience store to buy a charge since Eric's cell phone was almost out of battery.
After buying the charger, Juyeon told Eric that they should go and test it to see if it works. The idols decided to plug the charger into a nearby outlet.
Eric revealed that they were shocked to see the owner of the convenience store running towards them and yelling at them just as they were able to unplug their phones after confirming that the charger was working.
Eric, who does not speak nor understand Japanese, had to use a translator app to discover what they were being told. There, they discovered the store owner was accusing him of being an "electricity thief" and threatened to report the idol to the police.
In Japan, using electrical outlets without permission in places such as restaurants, cafes, or convenience stores is punishable by law, as it is seen as theft.
In response, Eric apologized, saying he did not know because he was from Korea. Eventually, he was able to avoid going to the police station.
Internet users who heard the story sympathized with Eric, saying that they encountered similar issues while traveling to Japan and almost ended up in the police station.
