On January 17, 2024, the final episode of "Universe Ticket" aired. The finale was broadcast live, showing the final selection of the debut line-up among the 16 finalists.
From rank 1 to 8, the members who will be debuting in UNIS are Elisia, Bang Yunha, Nana, Gehlee Dangca, Lim Seowon, Oh Yoona, Kotoko, and Jin Hyeonju.
Following the reveal of the line-up, people took to social media to share their thoughts on the debuting members. On January 18, 2024, a post titled "Look at Universe Ticket's debut group's ages" was posted to a South Korean online community forum.
UNIS Members 'Too Young' to Debut? Here's What People Think
The author of the post shared a photo of the group's line-up. They noted how the oldest member, Jin Hyeonju, was born in 2001 and is currently 22 years old. There is a striking ten-year age difference between her and the group's youngest member, Lim Seowon, who was born in 2011 and is only 12 years old.
Jin Hyeonju is the only adult member of the group; in fact, there is a six-year age difference between her and the second oldest of the group, Nana, who was born in 2007 and is currently 16 years old. Jin Hyeonju is the only member above the age of 17 as of this writing.
Here is a complete list of the members and their birthdays:
- Jin Hyeonju - November 3, 2001 (22 years old)
- Nana - June 6, 2007 (16 years old)
- Gehlee Dangca - August 19, 2007 (16 years old)
- Kotoko - October 28, 2007 (16 years old)
- Bang Yunha - February 29, 2009 (14 years old)
- Elisia - April 18, 2009 (14 years old)
- Oh Yoona - October 7, 2009 (14 years old)
- Lim Seowon - January 27, 2011 (12 years old)
With the group's average age being between 15 and 16, and the youngest member not even being a teen yet as of this writing, many believe the members are too young to debut. Many people also pity Jin Hyeonju, who has to promote with girls far from her age group.
People believe the gap between the oldest and the youngest is too big and that girls under the age of 16 are too young to be entering the entertainment industry.
Some comments read:
- "No, but being an '11-liner is just way too young. She should be entering middle school this year; why is she debuting?"
- "The oldest one is 22, and the youngest is 12... That's crazy."
- "Seeing the oldest being an '01-liner and the next one after her being a '07-liner is legendary..."
- "Taking away these people's childhoods is a crime."
- "The oldest is really going to be babysitting a bunch of children."
