After announcing her dating news, this top idol suffered the aftermath when she lost over 400,000 Instagram followers. But why is the star's relationship not supported by fans?
On January 19, former Wonder Girls and 4Minute HyunA's romantic relationship with ex-HIGHLIGHT Yong Junhyung came to fans' knowledge after the two stars posted a photo of themselves holding hands.
At the time, the idol briefly hinted at their dating by pleading her fans to "look at them prettily."
On the following day, Yong Junhyung made their relationship official through his fan community platform, saying:
"I think you would have been surprised by the sudden news. We are getting along well while receiving positive energy from each other, so I hope you will keep an eye on our relationship."
Following this, more pieces of evidence resurfaced, claiming that they could have been dating since 2023.
In December last year, Yong Junhyung held a year-end concert in Taiwan and based on eyewitnesses, HyunA accompanied him as his girlfriend.
HyunA Loses 400k Instagram Followers After Dating News — But Why?
About 10 days after she started publicly dating, HyunA shocked her fandom by acknowledging her relationship with Yong Junhyung.
As of January 29, she lost over 400k followers on Instagram. From initially having over 18.6M followers, she only has 18.2M now and it is expected that it will continue to plummet due to her dating news.
In context, K-pop idols dating is frowned upon. However, HyunA became one of the first idols to overcome this after her relationship with Dawn was announced in 2018.
At the time, she was lauded for fighting for her relationship, even if it cost her career under Cube Entertainment. When she left the label together with Dawn, they became soloists and a duo, enjoying success and approval.
Thus, when they broke up, fans were really left heartbroken and some remained hopeful they could get back together.
Unfortunately, HyunA's new dating news came up with Yong Junhyung. But this is not the sole reason people are upset. They are disappointed that she is dating Yong, who was investigated on charges of receiving illicit videos from singer-actor Jung Joon Young in 2015.
The latter was notorious for having a KakaoTalk chatroom that shares illegally filmed videos and conversations, which also led the police to discover sex crimes under the Burning Sun Scandal.
Amid this, Yong Joonhyung returned to the K-pop scene in 2022 after years he was on a hiatus and established his solo label, Black Made.
Fans of HyunA are protesting against the idol's decision, urging her to break up with him.
HyunA is originally known for being a feminist and an icon of women's empowerment; thus, dating a man who was once involved in sexual crimes is truly shocking.
