ReVeluv Slammed After Asking Red Velvet Seulgi to Do Inappropriate Dance During Video Call

On February 3, 2024, a tweet surfaced on X (formerly Twitter) of a Chinese fan asking Red Velvet member Seulgi to take part in an inappropriate dance challenge. The fan has since garnered backlash for asking the idol to do things without considering her comfort.

A dance challenge has been taking Douyin (a viral platform known to be the Chinese version of TikTok) by storm. The dance challenge is called "choking choreography" (掐脖舞) and was invented and popularized by a male streamer. The dance takes inspiration from BDSM and mimics the actions of choking, slapping, and using a whip.

The dance is known to have extreme sexual connotations. Thankfully, after seeing the video, Seulgi immediately denied the fan's request. However, other idols, such as aespa's Karina and Winter, NMIXX, and ITZY, have done the dance upon fan request.

After the video went viral, the fan was slammed for showing Seulgi the dance challenge and asking them to do it. People believe that those lucky enough to video call with their idols should show proper manners.

Others believe that when you have a chance to talk to your favorite idol, you should take that opportunity to talk to them normally instead of doing something weird.

Some comments read,

  • "Idols are humans, not robots. They aren't there to satisfy your sexual fantasies."
  • "Why don't you guys try having a normal conversation with your idol instead of doing this?"
  • "You have one chance to talk with them like a friend, but you chose to do this. WTF?"

On the other hand, many praised Seulgi for politely refusing the request.
