TWICE's 'I GOT YOU' Has 'Low' Reception on Domestic Charts — But ONCEs are Untroubled for THIS Reason

In an online community, both Korean and international ONCEs were unbothered by TWICE's "low" rankings across Korean music charts with "I GOT YOU."

Here's what happened.

TWICE's 'Low' Ranking on Music Charts Shrugged Off by ONCEs for THIS Reason

Earlier on February 2, TWICE released their highly anticipated pre-release track and third English digital single "I GOT YOU."

The song received positive feedback internationally, with many ONCEs having praised its uplifting music, cinematography, emotional depth, and TWICE's performance.

Various online communities were also ignited, as fans relayed their thoughts on TWICE's beautiful track. Some were emotional since they were busy indulging in the MV's flawless animation and the shots that captivated TWICE's sentiments.

But amidst the song's popularity outside Korea, netizens noticed that "I GOT YOU" underperformed in the country's music charts. For a powerhouse girl group like TWICE, netizens are understandably shocked as to why the song ranked low on MelOn, Genie, and Bugs.

"The song also didn't enter Bugs' chart."

Netizens were divided in the comments section of a forum, where they argued that TWICE's low performance in domestic music charts was due to the track being an all-English release.

Some disagreed, saying that this wasn't the case for LE SSERAFIM's English single "Perfect Night" and that the language wasn't a valid reason for a song's poor charting.

  • "But it's an English song."
  • "I didn't know they released an English song."
  • "But 'Perfect Night' was also an English song, and it was No. 1 in our charts just some days ago. It's not because it's an English song."

However, the majority of ONCEs were level-headed with the topic, as they countered that TWICE's domestic rankings didn't matter since the group is currently successful overseas.

Fans also stated that TWICE have already had consecutive first places in their career, and that they didn't have anything to prove anymore, since they're now one of the most successful girl groups globally.

  • "To be honest, TWICE have had No. 1 hits for like four years straight. They're now making music they enjoy, touring, and just vibing as idols."
  • "I bet you, they feel so relieved that they don't have to do year-end shows and do multiple stages."
  • "They don't need to chart, so who cares? They have all the recognition they can get, a solid fanbase, fairly regular comebacks, and steady income. They're not set for years to come."
  • "They've already started losing their strength in domestic charts, but they're doing so well on foreign charts so who cares."
  • "They are doing super great overseas anyway and they're promoting well."
  • "TWICE doesn't have to prove anything they're an established group with tons of hits. The fact they're still selling stadiums is amazing."
