In an interview, MAMAMOO Hwasa looked back on her days when she was in RBW, and shared what changed after joining Psy's P Nation.
On February 9, the Korean outlet Star News released an exclusive interview with the K-pop idol ahead of MAMAMOO's 10th debut anniversary in June this year.
During the conversation, Hwasa opened up about her transition from RBW to P Nation in July 2023.
MAMAMOO Hwasa Shares What Changed in Her Image After Joining P Nation
After working as an RBW Entertainment artist for a long time from 2014 to June 2023, it wasn't easy to transfer as an idol to another label due to possible overlapping schedules.
However, Hwasa was able to manage her status as a member of MAMAMOO and as a soloist, leading her to continuously make waves in the K-pop scene.
When asked what it was like to transfer to another company during a concert, Hwasa replied:
"I felt a huge 'P.' I also improvised, and Psy was also very spontaneous, so that moment came true. I thought it wasn't P Nation for no reason. It was a day that I was thankful for in many ways. I felt very confident."
Meanwhile, during her time in RBW, Hwasa leaned towards "sexy" and "dark" music, including her hits "Twit," "Maria," and "I'm a B."
Since her transfer to P Nation, the idol pursued brighter and richer songs, such as "I Love My Body," and "Chili."
When asked if she purposely challenged herself to change in music direction after transferring labels, Hwasa explained:
"Psy oppa told me to look back on the reason why I was loved by people. I felt that energy strongly in ‘I Love My Body’. The more I did music, the heavier my heart had become, so it seemed like I was also getting on the darker side, but 'I Love My Body' reminded me of 'me' and made me healthy."
She continued:
"I'm here to tell you now, but while preparing this song, I let go of a lot of things and threw myself away. Until the day before our comeback, I had a lot of nightmares due to unfamiliarity, but now that I think about it, I can't help but laugh. I wonder what I was so worried about that I locked myself away like that? Looking back, it wasn't a big deal."
MAMAMOO Hwasa Hints at Plans in 2024
In the same interview, Hwasa then shared her plans this year, which is also her 10th debut anniversary as a K-pop idol.
Regarding her goals, Hwasa replied:
"Health is the most important thing. To MooMoos (MAMAMOO fan club name) and all the people waiting for me, I can't wait to sing a lot of songs and performances. I'm trying to be very busy this year."
She also hinted at an album release ahead of its 10th debut anniversary in June with MAMAMOO, saying:
"I'm going to put everything into preparing for the album. And I'm going to meet more fans. I'm very excited, and I hope you look forward to it this year as well."
