At the same time, she then opened up her image about being a K-pop idol rapper, one of the reasons she decided to challenge various genres and concepts.

Moonbyul said:

"Working for the past 10 years, I am very grateful that the image of a rapper comes to mind when you think of the name, 'Moonbyul.' But I wanted to break that mold. I think I want to pursue diversity because I don't want to confine myself to that rapper image. I wanted to show that I am a singer who can rap and sing."

While talking with the press, Moonbyul, who debuted as the main rapper of MAMAMOO confessed that she didn't really like to become a rapper at first and hinted at the pressure she felt being in a vocal group.

"In the past, I had a rebellious phase when I think, 'I didn't want to rap.' At the beginning of my debut, I did not want to rap.

Compared to the other members, I had some weakness in terms of vocals, so I eventually became a rapper."

However, looking back at her career, Moonbyul was actually thankful she filled this position for the group, saying:

"Now that I think about it, 'I think I'm glad I did rapping.' I realized a lot while preparing for this album. Since I debuted as a quartet, not a soloist, the three minutes of singing were colorful.

While preparing for my solo album, I didn't want to miss out on the variety of songs. I rap and sing for even just one song, and then dance, so I think it's a good thing that I did it as it didn’t feel as boring as if I was still doing it together with them."

MAMAMOO 10th Debut Anniversary Plan

In the same interview, Moonbyul also responded to questions regarding the group's plan for their 10th debut anniversary, after debuting in June 2014.

Regarding this, she answered:

"As of now, there are no plans as a team. Since we worked hard as a group of MAMAMOO until last year, isn't it time to show off our individual capabilities? I hope you look forward to that, too."

While there are no immediate plans, the four members are always open to working as MAMAMOO again

"The four members only have different genres and appearances, but they like being in the name of MAMAMOO. We all created the name MAMAMOO together, cherished each other, and shared the biggest part of our lives. In that respect, we get along well with each other.

Even though we are in different companies and all four of us are different, we always talk about doing it whenever we come across a good song.”
