What Happened to BTOB? Group Pursues Team & Solo Activities Under Different Agencies
Meanwhile, BTOB is carrying out group activities separately and together. In November last year, the sextet finally left Cube Entertainment, which became their nest for 11 years.
The members are currently divided into three agencies. Lee Chang Sub found his new home at Fantagio, while Yook Sungjae headed to iWill Media. Both are continuing their activities as actors and solo singers.
On the other hand, Seo Eunkwang, Lee Minhyuk, Lim Hyunsik, and Peniel signed exclusive contracts with the new agency DOD and will be promoted under BTOB Company.
There is anticipation if the four members will create a sub-unit similar to BTOB 4U comprised of Eunkwang, Minhyuk, Chang Sub and Peniel or if they will be able to continue as six members after coordinating with the other two members' agencies.
BTOB vs HIGHLIGHT: Groups Draw Attention After Cube's Different Approach Regarding Trademark Rights
After announcing their departure from Cube, there are concerns about whether they could continue using the name BTOB.
Given the experience of BEAST, hereinafter HIGHLIGHT, the company didn't approve of the group using the trademark rights for the team after their contract ended.
After leaving the agency in 2016 and losing their initial name, they decided to change their group's name to HIGHLIGHT.
However, BTOB met with different results from Cube's senior group BEAST. With the help of the DOD, it ended well with the good news:
"Regarding the recent use of the group name 'BTOB' trademark rights, they will continue activities under the existing group name 'BTOB' through smooth negotiations with Cube Entertainment. The good news is that we have reached an agreement on the use of its trademark rights.”
