Background on iKON Bobby & BTS RM's 'Beef'
During a recent appearance on "Moneygraphy," iKON member Bobby revisited the time he dissed BTS during a rap performance at the 2014 MAMA Awards. At the time, Bobby collaborated with Dok2, The Qquiett, and Masta WU to perform "YGGR" and "COME HERE."
During his portion of the rap, Bobby specifically dissed BTS and the group's leader, RM (who went by the stage name Rap Monster at the time). His rap went, "They call me monster. You like full-length mirrors instead of basement dungeons, right? If appearance is also a talent, then I am Won Bin in front of bulletproof glass."
In response, RM dissed Bobby back in his collaboration stage with Zico at the 2016 MAMA Awards. However, in an interview, RM stated he was not offended by the diss and simply saw it as a playful call-out.
Now, nearly ten years later, Bobby has revealed why he chose to diss BTS.

During the interview, the host noted that it was interesting to see Bobby and RM diss each other so openly. He noted that K-pop fans misunderstood the disses as personal attacks, when in hip-hop, disses can be seen as playful jabs.

Both the host and Bobby agreed that disses can also be a sign that you respect the artist, and that choosing to diss someone indicates you want a good, playful fight. With that, they dispelled rumors that there was actual malice in his diss.
Bobby revealed that following the diss, people asked why he didn't diss EXO, who were at their peak in 2014.
He answered honestly, noting that EXO had a lot of fans and believed that if he chose to diss the SM Entertainment boy group, he might "die" due to the backlash he would have received.
He then added that he could not afford to make more enemies, so dissing EXO was out of the question.

This was likely for the best. 2014 is considered EXO's prime day. At the time, EXO was already bagging Daesangs in major award shows, while BTS had just debuted. Therefore, he probably considered it 'safer' to diss RM.
