In an online community, a netter questioned IU's status as a global star but K-Netz was quick to humble them with an impressive PLOT TWIST.
On March 7, an internet user took to the online platform Nate Pann to talk about IU's fame, writing an article, "IU can't be evaluated highly since she has not been successful overseas."
The OP explained:
"K-pop is a genre that has grown into the Hallyu Wave, but it's a bit controversial that IU, who has not contributed anything to it, is treated as a main character just based on her MelOn rankings."
K-Netz Defends IU Over Claims She's Unpopular Outside Korea
In particular, the web commenter wanted to point out how IU isn't charting in the U.S. charts such as Billboard regardless of being able to dominate the largest Korean music charts including MelOn.

As a result, fans especially UAENAs jumped to the idol's defense and left comments such as:
- "IU has the most followers on Instagram among female celebrities after BLACKPINK. So what's stopping her from being successful?"
- "How many people could go on a solo tour in the first place, other than IU?"
- "Even if people like you criticize IU, she's already a national singer."
- "You can't get a high evaluation for a singer who's already a legend."
- "Wow, IU is really cool. She debuted when she was in middle school but is still in check even in her 30s. How good would she be?"
IU Serves Greatest Plot Twist After Selling Out Concert in US
Following this post, IU also indirectly squashed ridiculous claims about her fame after her US leg concerts sold out in five states.
In particular, IU will hold the "2024 IU HER World Tour Concert" in the U.S. and meet fans in six concerts in five U.S. states from July 15 to August 2.
- Newark, New Jersey (July 15)
- Atlanta, Georgia (July 19)
- Washington, D.C. (July 22)
- Rosemont, Illinois (July 25)
- Oakland, California (July 30)
- Los Angeles, California (Aug. 2)
All concerts will be held at an arena venue except in Los Angeles, as it will happen at the Kia Forum.
As this will be the first time that IU will go back to the US in about five years since Love, poem in 2019, there is an explosive excitement and battle in ticketing, proving her unrelenting popularity overseas, contrary to what the OP claimed.
Meanwhile, IU's HER world tour already kicked off in Seoul held initially on March 2 and 3. Her Korean concert will last for four days and the remaining two days will happen on March 9 and 10.
