Among girl groups who will debut in 2024, the Korean media has been mentioning THIS quartet as the "Next BLACKPINK/2NE1." Here are the reasons.
VVUP Expected to Revive BLACKPINK/2NE1 K-Hip-hop, Girl Crush Concepts
In 2024, there is a long roster of girl groups that will debut and join the intensifying 5th-gen K-pop era battle!
Among them is the upcoming girl group VVUP, which is expected to light up the fierce and heated competition of rookies in the first half of the year.
In particular, the Korean media is referring to the quarter as "Next BLACKPINK/2NE1 and the reason was due to their concept that didn't follow the "easy-listening" trend.

"Recently, the girl group market has been focusing on femininity. This can be attributed to girl group NewJeans, which showed huge growth last year.
As their newtro concept has shown success, a number of girl groups have adopted similar images.
In contrast, hip-hop girl groups such as 2NE1 and BLACKPINK have lost their reputation. VVUP is targeting this niche market."
Another reason for the increasing anticipation of their debut was because they are expected to absorb supporters from BLACKPINK or 2NE1 fandoms, BLINKs and BlackJacks, respectively.
It was due to the fact that Hyunny and Suyeon were former YG Entertainment trainees and prior to their debut, both established fandoms who watched them as they grew to become idols.
A few netizens commented that they "feel like BLACKPINK" after watching their profiles and freestyle videos.
Will VVUP Experience 'Miracle of Small & Medium-Sized Company'?
Among soon-to-debut girl groups, the high interest that they are receiving is truly a big deal, given that they are produced by EgoENT, a new small and medium-sized label.
VVUP (pronounced as BIBI UP) will release its first single, "Doo Doom Chit" on March 13 through various music platforms.
Despite being a start-up agency, they showed all-out support to VVUP, the MV being filmed at a location in Los Angeles.
The team that worked behind the scenes with VVUP was also incredible. The MV was directed by Hannah Lux Davis, who collaborated with global pop stars Doja Cat and Ariana Grande. It is her first time producing a music video for a K-pop group and there are already high expectations for its quality.
In addition to this, the production team of "Do Doom Chit" is also trustworthy. The producer behind BTS's "Dope" GOT7's "Hard Carry" and TWICE's "ONE SPARK" participated in the production.
Meanwhile, a 22-second teaser video of "Doo Doom Chit" was uploaded through its official YouTube channel on March 8, and it received more than 130,000 views in just a day upon its release.
Comprised of two Korean members Hyunny & Suyeon, Indonesian Kim and Thai Paan, the overseas reactions were overwhelming, as of the writing. The comments which exceeded 1.9k were mostly written in English, signaling their strong support from international fandom.
