Eagle-eyed fans spotted SEVENTEEN Mingyu's lock screen during Bvlgari's event in Seoul. The reveal has since sparked mixed opinions.
On March 14, 2024, Mingyu was one of the stars invited to attend Bvlgari's brand event in Seoul. During the event, Mingyu stunned in an all-black ensemble paired with silver Bvlgari necklaces and rings. He went viral following the event due to his interactions with BLACKPINK Lisa.
However, another thing caught people's attention: his phone wallpaper.
SEVENTEEN Mingyu Phone Lock Screen Revealed
During the event, Mingyu and Lisa were seen interacting with each other. While Lisa maintained a playful demeanor with her same-aged colleague, Mingyu was seen chatting in a calm and friendly manner with the female idol.
During the interaction, Mingyu had his phone in his hand, with the screen open. Fans quickly zoomed into the photo and discovered the male idol's lockscreen was a famous celebrity.
Fans were able to discover that Mingyu's background was that of Mr. Olympia competitor and bodybuilder Chris Bumstead. For those who don't know who that is, Chris Bumstead is a five-time My. Some thought Mingyu's use of a bodybuilder as his lock screen was "weird," "embarassing," or gave them "the ick." This is because in Western culture, bodybuilding has a negative connotation, especially among women. The stereotype is that bodybuilders have "hypermasculine" attitudes, with one of the most infamous figures being Andrew Tate.
However, others defended Mingyu.
It is well known among CARATs that Mingyu is a health and gym fanatic. Therefore, it is not unusual for him to have a bodybuilder as his lockscreen. Many pointed out how hypocritical some K-pop fans were being, as a lot of "stans" have their favorite idol as their wallpaper on their devices.
