aespa Winter's Cover of 'Farewell Under the Sun' Draws Comparison to Former miss A Suzy

Winter is one of the most well-loved vocalists in the fourth-gen, and is revered for her versatility, distinct tone, wide range, and innate ability to slay every performance when it comes to singing.

With her incredible talent being known to the K-pop industry, Winter has also done some covers to showcase her vocals. Earlier on July 18, 2023, the "Drama" singer made an appearance at "Lee Mujin Service," where she sang covers of "I'm Unhappy," "London," and "Confetti."

In her last song "Farewell Under the Sun," Winter engaged in a duet with Lee Mujin, and flexed her stability, alongside her wonderful technique, and captivating execution . This would later be compared to one of the track's original artists, Bae Suzy.

On March 18, netizens gathered in an online community titled, "Comparing Winter and Suzy singing the same song makes me realize how talented Suzy is."

The author included a fan video, which compared Winter and Suzy's cover performances of "Farewell Under the Sun."

"She sounds so clean and sings so well," OP shared. "Suzy made me sad when I listened to her version."

In the comments, netizens remarked how Suzy fits the song more because of it being a "JYP song," but some argued that Winter is the better one in terms of singing skills. Meanwhile, others were neutral, saying that the two idols each have songs that are perfect for them.

  • "Suzy was legendary here."
  • "Is it because it's a JYP song? Suzy probably pulls it off better because she sings it in the JYP way, but both are good singers."
  • "It's true that this song is more fit for Suzy."
  • "They probably each have songs that they can pull off best."
  • "Just skills-wise, I feel like Winter is better though."
  • "I feel like Winter sang it better than Suzy. Are you trying to set Suzy up?"

However, some netizens pointed out that while Winter did an excellent job in the vocal department, Suzy had the upper hand when visibly expressing the song through her emotions.

  • "In my opinion, Winter sang it better, Suzy was out of breath in the first low lines, but Suzy's version got a lot more emotion, so it fits her."
  • "I feel like a lot of SM singers struggle with emotional depth honestly (not to say there aren't some who are extraordinary) but it's why I don't find myself connecting with a lot of the songs."
  • "One thing about Suzy is that she's a good interpreter, you could give her any ballad. That's why her pre-release songs are so good, you can feel her emotions."
