Lee Hyori Faces Criticism for 'Poor' Singing Skills in THIS Video

On March 20, netizens established an online post, titled, "Lee Hyori's awful singing skills lately."

In the forum, the author shared a video of Lee Hyori singing at the wedding of comedian Jung Ho-cheol, which was held on March 9. The entertainer is also the co-host of Shin Dong Yup on the channel "Zzanbro" and was married to fellow comedian Lee Hye Ji.

The video showed Lee Hyori performing "Thanks," a well-known ballad by singer-songwriter Kim Dong Ryul. Unfortunately, Lee Hyori's performance received harsh criticism from netizens online, as many claimed that her vocals were struggling and missing flair.

They also expressed disappointment over such "poor" performance coming from an icon like Lee Hyori, who is one of the most loved household names in South Korea since the 2000s.

"This was at the wedding of Jung Ho-cheol, the co-host of Shin Dong Yup in 'Zzanbro," OP captioned. "And Lee Hyori, with her seniority of 27 years, sang this congratulatory song. This is her completely unedited singing."

Netizens in the comments section went all out against the soloist, venting how much Lee Hyori lacked in her singing skills. Some mentioned that the ballad choice had caused the soloist's underwhelming execution.

  • "I'm not even joking. I could've sung this song better than her."
  • "It would've been better if she didn't sing anything at all, but did the thought of changing the song not occur to her while practicing it?"
  • "Lee Hyori seems to have never taken any legit singing classes, and she just sings with her throat."
  • "The thing Lee Hyori sucks the most at is doing her job."
  • "It's hard for people to always stay consistently bad at something. But Lee Hyori managed to remain consistently bad at singing."

Internet users also uttered how unbelievable it was seeing Lee Hyori get criticized. Others argued the soloist isn't known for her vocals in the first place, but for her charisma on stage and variety skills.

  • "I can't believe I'm living long enough to see a timeline where they are hating on Lee Hyori, when they've been treating her like royalty all this time."
  • "Her singing especially always got hate. Even in the studio version of 10 minutes, she sounds bad in some parts lol."
  • "When she started doing variety again a couple years ago people warmed up to her but now they're annoyed at her again (rightfully)."
  • "They used to worship the ground she walks. How times changed."
  • "Lee Hyori was never about singing anyway. Her charisma is what sold her to me."
  • "She should stick to songs that showcase her charisma more like 'Holly Jolly Bus,' and 'Miss Korea' instead of ballads."
