Does Yunah Not Suit ILLIT Concept? Korean Netizens Debate

Korean netizens are debating whether or not Yunah suits ILLIT's concept.

On March 25, 2024, ILLIT made their much-anticipated debut with their debut mini-album, "Super Real Me," and its lead single, "Magnetic."

The girl group debuted with a dainty, mystical-like concept, with music that is more bubblegum pop and dance pop. Their debut has been well-received by the public, and interest in the members is growing.

However, there is one member who is drawing mixed reactions.

K-Netz Debate on Whether or Not Yunah Suits ILLIT

On March 28, 2024, a post titled "ILLIT's Yunah shows the importance of concept" was shared on a famous South Korean online community forum.

In the post, the original poster (OP) shared photos of Yuna in two different concepts. One is from when she performed "Bad Girl Good Girl" on the survival show "R U NEXT?"

For this performance, Yunah was seen wearing darker clothing, shorts, and knee-high boots. Her hair is also slicked back into a high ponytail.

Overall, she appears more chic and girl crush. The OP claims she looks more like a celebrity in this performance.

The next photo is from Yunah during ILLIT's debut stage for "Magentic" on "M Countdown." In this photo, she is seen in all-white. Her long, straight black hair is accessorized with a frilly headband that matches her white choker and sleeveless mini-dress.

Her outfit is in line with ILLIT's princess and dainty concept and matches with the other members. Despite wearing an outfit similar to the other members, she doesn't suit the concept.

Korean Netizens Claim Yunah Doesn't Match ILLIT's Concept

Many Korean netizens in the comment section agreed. They believe she looks too mature for ILLIT's concept and that BELIFT Lab should have found a way to make her suit the concept more.

Others compared Yunah in ILLIT to Kahi (After School) performing KARA's "Pretty Girl."

Many sympathized with Yunah, saying it must be hard for her and the other adult members of the group to be given such childlike concepts. K-netz hopes that for their next release, they will give the members a concept they want.

Others commented that having Youngseo in the group would have helped balance the visuals more, as she still matches the youthful visuals of the other members but has a similar level of maturity as Yunah.

Though Youngseo was part of the debut line-up, BELIFT Lab announced her departure from the group in January.

Some comments read:

  • "They are taking grown adults that aren't high schoolers anymore and giving them baby concepts. I bet the members hate their own concepts too. I hope they read the room and give us what the group actually wants for the next comeback. The outfits are so... What a mess."
  • "I really agree with people saying it's like Kahi performing 'Pretty Girl.'"
  • "I feel like Youngseo would have been a better match in ILLIT."
  • "For real, Yunah looks too mature. They should have given her bangs or a hime cut, or they should have changed her make-up. They should have done something to make her fit the concept more."
  • "Yunah looks like a substitute teacher with high schoolers."
