ILLIT Becomes First K-pop Group To Enter Billboard Hot 100 With Debut Song
ILLIT is currently making waves across the music charts with their debut title track "Magnetic," which is from their first mini album "SUPER REAL ME."
According to Billboard's rankings, ILLIT managed to enter the Hot 100 chart at No. 91 for the week ending on April 20. This achievement has marked their first-ever entry on the Hot 100, which is a great feat since the chart ranks the most trending songs in the United States.
Furthermore, this feat led ILLIT to become the first K-pop group in history to enter the Hot 100 with a debut song. This also earned ILLIT as the fastest K-pop group to debut on the Hot 100, surpassing FIFTY FIFTY's four-month record with their three-week timeframe.
ILLIT also became the seventh K-pop girl group to enter the chart following Wonder Girls, BLACKPINK, TWICE, NewJeans, FIFTY FIFTY, and LE SSERAFIM. Overall, ILLIT is now the ninth K-pop group to land a spot with the inclusion of boy groups BTS and Stray Kids
On social media platform X (Twitter), fans congratulated the group:
ILLIT debuted on March 25 and was formed through the survival show "R U Next?," which was a collaboration between HYBE's subsidiary label BELIFT LAB and station JTBC. The current lineup is composed of members Iroha, Wonhee, Minju, Moka, and Yunah.
Prior to debut, ILLIT was originally a six-membered group, with the initial inclusion of "R U Next?" finalist Youngseo. However, on January 5, BELIFT LAB announced Youngseo's departure from the group and the agency.
ILLIT's "Magnetic" eventually went viral on social media, with dozens of dance challenges using the song spread like wildfire.
